SoulGeek.com FAQ/Help Page
SoulGeek will NEVER send an e-mail with a link, pop-up, or phone number requesting financial, personal, or account information.
No matter how official it looks (with our logos and stuff) never, never, never, reply to an e-mail or pop-up, asking for personal or financial information! And don’t even THINK about clicking on links in the message. And DO NOT copy and paste a link from such an email into your browser — phisher scumbags can make links look like they go to our site, but actually send you somewhere else.
Furthermore, SoulGeek will NEVER send an e-mail instructing you to call a special phone number in order to correct an account problem. DO NOT give personal or financial information by way of such a phone number. In fact, don’t even try calling a number found in such an e-mail. That could be disastrous!
IF THERE IS EVER A PROBLEM WITH YOUR ACCOUNT WE WILL INSTRUCT YOU TO LOG INTO THE SITE ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY LINKS, CUTTING OR PASTING TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.
HOW MUCH DOES SOULGEEK COST?
Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zippo. Not one frakking dime SoulGeek.com is 100% FREE! Cool, huh?
WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN MY PROFILE?
1. Use a photo – You’re a bazillion times more likely to get a response with a photo than without. Pics themselves should be something recent and, I’m not sure how to put this but, not too flattering. If it makes you look good to the point it doesn’t look like you, you’ll get more virtual gifts and messages but you won’t like the disappointment, resentment or down right anger you find when you actually meet. And keep in mind that avatars in place of photos are allowed ONLY for non-dating members.
2. Use a catchy tagline/motto – It’s the heading that will be posted at the top of your profile. Don’t be too simple or suggestive – “Lookin’ for hot monkey Klingon love” might get you (if you’re female) more virtual gifts and messages, but you might not like what those messages have to say.
3. Spend time on your profile – If you can’t think of anything to say when you sign-up you can keep it short and sweet because you can come back as often as you like and make tweaks. And you really should make tweaks because your profile and your photo are the only way for anybody to get to know you, so spend the time to be thoughtful, witty and/or both, most importantly, honest.
IS IT SAFE?
Online dating is no more dangerous or safe than any other kind of dating – you just have to be careful and use common sense. For more, check out our Safe Dating Tips.
SOME DATING SITES HAVE RESTRICTIONS ON LGBT PROFILES. DOES SOULGEEK?
Nope, not at all. We want ALL geeks to find their SoulGeek regardless of sexual orientation.ARE
PROFILES FOR POLYAMOROUS RELATIONSHIPS OKAY?
“Swinging” and/or “cheating” based profiles NO.
True “Polyamorous” based profiles YES.
SoulGeek.com is a relationship focused dating site. For us “relationship” is the key word and therefore profiles aimed toward true Polyamorous relationships ARE indeed welcome here!
Alternatively, this also means that profiles with a focus on “swinging” and/or “cheating” will NOT be approved. While we have no objection to such lifestyles, these types of profiles do not represent what SoulGeek.com was created for.
For the purposes of defining meaning we at SoulGeek.com accept the following definition of “Polyamory” and “Polyamorous Relationships” from Wikipedia:
Polyamory (from Greek πολύ [poly], meaning "many" or "several", and Latin amor, "love") is the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate relationship at a time with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved. It is distinct from both swinging (which emphasizes sex with others as merely recreational) and may or may not include polysexuality (attraction towards multiple genders and/or sexes).
The "knowledge and consent of all partners concerned" is a defining characteristic of polyamorous relationships. Distinguishing polyamory from traditional forms of non-monogamy (e.g., "cheating") is an ideology that openness, goodwill, truthful communication, and ethical behavior should prevail among all the parties involved.
WHAT DOES THE “AWAITING APPROVAL” MEAN?
It simply means you’ve recently altered part of your account, be it new blog entries, new profile photos or images in your albums, or even the wording of your profile and it will take 24 to 72 hours for those changes to appear. Nothing on SoulGeek.com is automated so actual real live human eyeballs have to check everything to make sure nobody’s doing anything naughty (and by naughty we mean offensive, not the fun kind of naughty).
HOW DO I CHANGE MY PASSWORD?
Just click the "Edit My Profile" link. Just above the right side of the edit panel you will see a red "Change Password" link.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RAISE OR LOWER SHIELDS (hide/unhide profile)?
If you click the "Raise Shields! (hide profile)" link found on your home page at the top of your "status" module, your profile will become almost completely hidden... this includes everything from not appearing in search results to disappearing from friends lists.
As for what you can do, you remain completely invisible when it comes to all passive actions such as doing profile searches, watching videos, reading blogs, etc... It will appear as if your profile no longer exists. Only when you actually do something interactive with your profile such as send a message or enter the chatroom would you then be visible to other members when running with shields up.
Click "Lower your shields (unhide profile)" and BAMMO you become visible again, including re-appearing on friends lists, and so on.
In other words it’s a safe way to temporarily hide your profile if need be, while making sure the feature can’t be abused by bozos who might want to use it to become creepy invisible stalkers.
HOW DO I SUBMIT A TESTIMONIAL?
