|My SOULGEEK Self:||
I'm challenging myself to branch out and try something new. Well, not "new" per se, because I've actually done this online thing before way back in the late 90s (yep, you read that right) and then again in the mid 00s, so. Yes, I'm dating myself now. As in revealing my age that is, not actually "dating" myself -- you get it. I hope. But it's fun to get back out there and see what's happening in the Lands of Ones and Zeros.
...I've read this over and can honestly say that - if you read it out loud as fast as your mouth will let you - this paragraph is an accurate representation of what future conversation with me is going to be like. I apologize in advance.
>> I design & help craft headstones for a living (seriously). I have a cat, and will therefore always have hair on my clothes; If you're allergic and we ever meet, you'll definitely sneeze the whole time. Sorry. I enjoy insanely dark coffee. Nature and all things associated with it. Live music shows of any sort. Sketching & taking pictures of stuff. Electrical storms. Snow showers & squalls. Pancake & bacon breakfasts. I'm learning to not squish spiders. Who am I to destroy that which I fear? I love to read, and particularly enjoy short stories compared to full-on novels. I love love muscle cars, classic cars, vintage cars, early-to-mid-century American-mades, oddball Europeans that I'll never ever own (I like cars). Send a message anytime.
|The SoulGeek I'm Looking For:||
It says to "give us a paragraph about the awesome SOULGEEK you're looking for." I never know what to put in this box. I don't think I'm actually looking for a soul geek, though the fact that I'm here would illustrate that I am in fact, sorta, looking for a soul geek. Maybe not so much a soul geek as a sort of like-minded whomever, with whom to shoot the casual geek-related shiznit. Do people say that anymore, shiznit? I should stop here. I'll call this box completed.
|Ideally, if I could be any character from the worlds of Sc-Fi, Horror & Fantasy I would be:||
The one who rolls the crit and kicks tush.
|But I'm probably more like:||
The red-shirt who botches the roll and dies within the first 7 minutes of the movie.
|In a Nutshell|
|I'm Into:||Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy, Animation, Anime, Comic Books, Webcomics, Video Gaming, Table Top Gaming, Fan Conventions, Costumes and Cosplay, Fan-Fic, Fan-Art, Collectibles, Film Scores, Fan Clubs and Fan Organizations, Gadgets, Gizmos and Computer Stuff, Signings/Autograph Events|
|My Other Car is:||a Zombie Assault Vehichle|
|Why I love Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, Animation, etc...||
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams."
|Some of my SCI-FI Favorites include:||
Oh, goodness. I can't put them all into this box. It would take hours. So I'm going to put three into each box, and we'll see how many times I show up in whomever's search results.
Star Trek. I was really into Next Gen during its first run in the 90s, and got into the original TV show for a time too. I'm sure I've seen a handful of the movies. I haven't seen much of the other TV series, but I'm down for any of them.
Firefly. It's just got a special place in my geek heart. Probably because Fox just did it so wrong from the start. I mean, who airs a brand new series by starting with episode 3? It just wasn't right. Serenity tied up the loose ends, but unfortunately didn't leave much room for continuation. I'll stop. But, yeah. Firefly.
I liked a lot of the recent sci-fi movies that were considered not-so-great: Gravity, Lucy, Blade Runner 2049, Atomic Blonde, Mad Max: Fury Road, etc. There, that's even more than three. This box is done.
|Some of my FANTASY favorites include:||
Anything Terry Pratchett. I adore the Discworld series. The BBC productions of Hogfather, The Color of Magic, and Going Postal were stellar. I'm really looking forward to Good Omens.
Speaking of Pratchett, I have to throw in Neil Gaiman. Anything of his, at that. He can write no wrong.
Of course, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. I really liked the movie Trollhunter. Like, a lot. Have you ever seen the movie Swiss Army Man? That's a bizarre little flick. I'll stop there with this box. Done.
|Some of my HORROR favorites include:||
I'm a real big fan of those first-person, holding-the-camera-while-we-all-die horror movies. Found footage flicks. Demons, zombies, paranormal/ghosts/hauntings, ancient curses, insane family members, etc.
The best horror book I ever read was a collection of short stories titled Young Blood. I found it in the dinky little book section in the supermarket. It had the craziest, most blood-chilling short stories I'd ever read. Nutty stuff. I loaned it to a friend who promptly lost it, of course. Never did find it again.
Suspense is another favorite. It doesn't have to be bloody to be scary. I just love scaring the crap out of myself.
|Some of my ANIMATION-ANIME favorites include:||
I love all kinds of anime. Spirited Away is an all-time favorite, naturally. The Last Unicorn was my first. Robot Carnival is a goodie. The original Ghost in the Machine was something. I actually liked Samurai Champloo better than Cowboy Bebop. I know, right? The subtitled version though. Something unique and original gets lost when it's dubbed. There's more to it than just the words, the literal translation.
|Some of my COMIC BOOK/MANGA/WEBCOMIC favorites include:||
Well, Marvel and DC of course. They kinda started it all. And as such, I am a big fan of the Marvel/DC movie franchise. Not so much the franchise itself, because corporate greed is real and horrible, but -- you get it. The movies have been pretty decent.
I was really into Penny Arcade for a long time, but they kept changing the way Gabe and Tycho were drawn and it started to really bother me for some reason. I mean, I get that long-running animated characters change and evolve over time with regards to the way they're drawn (ie: Tracy Ulman Show Simpsons vs. today Simpsons), but it just bothered me. Then the writing wasn't as funny as it used to be. But I do check in now and then for the one-off strips.
Girl Genius is another webbie I was into for a long time. I started getting into it way close to the middle of the story line, and just never got caught up to where I can really actually understand the entire plot line. Is there even really an actual plot line? I don't know, now that I think about it. It's written and drawn well, and, well, Steampunk. Badass.
|Some of my GAMING favorites include:||
Left4Dead and Left4Dead2 are always going to be console favorites. FPS zombies with team options, uh, yes please and thank you. That's really kinda all I actually played on Xbox. That and the Sims. But the Sims is much better on PC.
I do still game D&D with a bunch of nerdy geek friends, maybe once or twice a month-ish. We don't get together as often as we'd like, but it does happen and it's always a good time. Typically ed 3.5, but I hear 5 is a good system and worth learning. We'll see.
|Some of my FILM, TV etc... SCORING favorites include:||
The Final Fantasy soundtracks/scores are amazeballs. Like, all of them have really great music. Lord of the Rings, too. If you can find it, the orchestral score to The Crow was one that I've always been glad to have collected.
|Some of my SIGNING/AUTOGRAPH EVENT favorites include:||
I can honestly say I've never been to a signing/autograph event before. I've been to conventions and events where famous people were signing things, but never to an event where the sole purpose was to have famous people show up and sign things. It sounds awesome. I'd probably really enjoy one.
|Some of my COLLECTIBLES favorites include:||
I need one more Pop! to complete my Firefly collection. Captain Mal. The crew is missing their captain. Then I need to finish the Rocky Horror set. ...Don't judge me.
|Some of my CONVENTION favorites include:||
Costumes, costumes, costumes! I love to see what people wear. Imagination runs rampant when it comes to costuming for conventions. I like question/answer panels and photo booths, I like to see what sort of collectibles and wares are being sold. I like all kinds of conventions, too. Technology, comics, cosplay, renaissance, gadgets, gaming... all kinds.
|Some of my COSPLAY favorites include:||
I was involved in a group costume for private Halloween parties on two different occasions:
In the first, we went as the Scooby Doo gang. I was Scooby. We won a gift certificate prize.
In the second, we went as the Rock n' Roll Wizard of Oz; Dorothy/Josh Ramsay (Marianas Trench), Tin Man/Jimi Hendrix, Scarecrow/Elton John, Cowardly Lion/Stevie Nicks. I was all Stevie, no cowardly. There were no prizes.
I do love cosplay. I have friends who cosplay regularly on the comic-con circuit, and I live vicariously through their adventures. I also have friends who create costumes for other cosplayers, and I do enjoy the local Renaissance Faire during the summer months here where I live. ...That counts as cosplay, right? ;)
|Some of my FAN CLUB/FAN ORGANIZATION favorites include:||
I'm not actively a member of any fan clubs or organizations, though I'm not adverse to joining should they stoke a fire in my geek soul.
