|My SOULGEEK Self:||
I'm a 28 year old animation/comic book/movie (probably missing something in there) nerd, located in Brooklyn. By trade, I work in animation, as a writer, on a web series.
I'm bizarre mix of awkwardly shy and very animated. That being said once you get to know me, I balance out and just become pretty chill.
|The SoulGeek I'm Looking For:||
I'm really looking for someone who will accept me for all my nerdy quirks and share all of my nerdy hobbies with. Calling each other character names, as pet names, arguing at length over nonsensical, but convincing fan theories about cartoons, falling asleep while watching cheesy 80s movies. The good stuff.
More importantly, I suppose, I really want someone who's not afraid to speak their mind and really go after what they want. Being with someone who's a self-starter is important to me.
Oh, and if you're a Weezer fan (even after all the bad albums), you're good in my book.
|Ideally, if I could be any character from the worlds of Sc-Fi, Horror & Fantasy I would be:||
Dash Rendar (Just to offset all the Han Solos on here)
|But I'm probably more like:||
Jay Baruchel in any given role
|In a Nutshell|
|I'm Into:||Science Fiction, Animation, Anime, Comic Books, Webcomics, Video Gaming|
|My Other Car is:||a Starship|
|Why I love Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, Animation, etc...||
I got my first comic books when I was four years old (Spider-Man #375, being the first one I ever cracked open). Since then, my imagination was opened to all these amazing fantasy world that shaped my life and career. Over the years, I've always looked to nerdy media for escapism and revel in it.
|Some of my SCI-FI Favorites include:||
I love tons of science fiction, mostly grungy, lived in worlds like Star Wars, though, it's debatable whether or no that's pure sci-fi. But also stuff like Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and tons of 80s and 90s schlock that no one has ever heard of. Not a huge Star Trek fan, but I feel like now might be the right time to get into it. Did love that Beyond movie though.
As far as fiction goes, I love Douglas Adams. He treated sci-fi weirdness in such a "matter-of-fact" manner. Also love William Gibson's stuff, big fan of cyberpunk.
|Some of my FANTASY favorites include:||
In terms of fantasy, I always prefer smaller, meditative pieces. I grew up on The Twilight Zone, which really opened my eyes to have fantasy can be more than just dragons and stuff. I love magical events that reveal a lot about the human condition.
That being said, I love 80s sword and sorcery flicks. Dragonslayer and Krull are favorites.
|Some of my ANIMATION-ANIME favorites include:||
Animation is my one biggest loves. Obviously, like everyone in the world, I grew up on Disney movies, Sword In The Stone being my absolute favorite, followed closely by A Goofy Movie. From there, I grew to love The Simpsons and nearly everything on Adult Swim (circa 2003), which really got me into slice-of-life shows and films. Using animation to tell basic human stories is some of my favorite film making ever. I'm really getting into a lot of anime that focus on smaller stories, Your Name being my favorite film of last year. Also loved the Disney/Cartoon Network renaissance from a couple years back with stuff like Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Regular Show, and Star Vs..
Honestly, if there was a cartoon made from 1989 to now, chance are I know it.
|Some of my COMIC BOOK/MANGA/WEBCOMIC favorites include:||
Marvel and DC were the building blocks of my childhood teen years. X-Men and Spider-Man were easily my favorites, with special love specifically to New Mutants. Getting to know more about characters that I love, every week, is still a tradition.
Like animation, I've grown to love slice of life stuff too. There are so many amazing indie authors out there like Liz Prince and Alec Longstreth that need more love.
|Some of my GAMING favorites include:||
Very much an old school gamer. Grew up on SNES and Sega like every other kid and still play that stuff relentlessly. My favorite games of all time, however, are probably UmJammer Lammy, Psychonauts, and Jet Set Future.
