What is your favorite sci fi short story either classic or a bit more current?

My favorite has to be The Time Machine.

Great question! If we’re talking about science fiction only (not fantasy), then I’d have to go with Ray Bradbury’s “The F. Scott/Tolstoy/Ahab Accumulator”.

As a close runner-up, I’d pick Arthur C. Clarke’s “The Star”.

Of course, once there’s more than one story on the board, I’d have to add Spider Robinson’s “User Friendly”, William Gibson’s “Burning Chrome”, Kelly Robson’s “The Gladiator Lie”, and Cory Doctorow’s “The Super Man and the Bugout”. And then I’d probably have to add a few from Robert Charles Wilson, Peter Watts, Claude Lalumiere, and Kit Reed, but then we’d be here all day.

A short story you can read on Tor.com by Charles Stross called "Equoid".

It's a dark but interesting tale about a British occult secret service field operative looking into the possibility of Unicorns popping out in the countryside... but they are more terrifying then we tend to portray them. Has a bit of Lovecraftian horror mixed in.
