|ME and YOU|
|My SOULGEEK Self:||
I'm an artist. first and foremost; not by choice: I believe I was born with my artistic ability, and my primary focus over the last ten-plus years has been drawing and illustrating––mostly comic-book-character fan-art. I've always drawn, since I could hold a pencil or crayon, and I've dabbled in writing over the decades as well.
I'm somewhat of a contradiction, as I'm a technophile, up until they change-around a software that I've been using for years. My head has been dreaming with some of the best science-fiction authors for decades like Bradbury, Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, Niven, Gibson and Varley, and I can hardly wait for most of the things they wrote about to come true, (MOSTLY: I don't think I'd want to meet a Kzinti without sufficient backup!)
I read ALL the time, and i watch movies most of the rest of the time. I quote movies like some more learned person would quote literature, even though I've read a smattering of that, too.
I'm old, which means experienced, but I'm also a boy at heart (too much so, some might say) and still enjoy the things that inflamed my imagination when I was small. I grew up in the 60's, which was a very exciting time: the Beatles, Gigantor, the Thunderbirds, Astro Boy, and many, many other things that are now trendy "retro" icons were originated in my time.
By virtue of my age, (and over ten years of therapy), I may have some "sage" council, and I'm also pretty tolerant (if I do say so myself), having seen a LOT in my days. I will never dismiss you, or assess a thought of yours as superfluous, 'cause I'm mostly interested in finding out who you are. I prefer you to be straight with me (as long as it's not hostile), but I have PLENTY of room for the silly, inane, and incongruous. I've been told I have a good heart more than once, and of course, I like to think that's true. There isn't much that a person can do to make me think ill of them, except to treat myself or others badly or with hostility.
|The SoulGeek I'm Looking For:||
A creative person would be ideal; someone who appreciates the creative the next best. Friendly to animals, and affectionate. I'm quite partial to very long hair.
|Ideally, if I could be any character from the worlds of Sc-Fi, Horror & Fantasy I would be:||
|But I'm probably more like:||
|In a Nutshell|
|I'm Into:||Science Fiction, Animation, Anime, Comic Books, Fan-Art, Collectibles, Film Scores|
|My Other Car is:||a Starship|
|Why I love Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, Animation, etc...||
Imagination is the best. You can't get much further away from "real world" troubles than to another galaxy or time
|Some of my SCI-FI Favorites include:||
Authors: Bradbury, Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, Niven, Gibson and Varley; to many others to even remember, let alone name.
I loved and have re-read MANY times both the "Wild-Cards" and "Man-Kzin Wars" series. I think the all-time Bible for Steampunk is Gibson's "The Difference Engine"
Movies: (let's stick to recent, or this would be a VERY long list)
I like The Hunger Games (books and movies), and yes, I'll admit, I like the "Twilight" series (movies––I haven't read the books), but I like the "Blade" movies, "Underworld" series, "Interview with a Vampire" and Francis Ford Coppala's Bram Stoker's "Dracula"………(that's a lot of vampire movies, now that I tally it!)………Oh, Yeah! "Lost Boys", too!. "Watchmen", "Prometheus", "Buckaroo Banzai", "Red Dwarf", "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". "Sky Captain", The "Matrix" series, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"--all three (Swedish) movies AND the books (I know that's not sci-fi or fantasy), "2001: A Space Odyssey" was my all-time favorite movie for decades, Star Trek: TV, Animation, Books AND Movies (both pre-Abrams and the newest), "Fringe", "X-Files" (TV and Movies), "Iron Giant", "Incredibles", "Serenity" and "Firefly" (yep: I'm a browncoat), all the "X-Men" films………now I'm just reading off my stacks of DVD's………
I've GOT to mention the Original "Outer Limits" and Patrick McGoohan's "The Prisoner"
|Some of my FANTASY favorites include:||
All-time BEST fantasy EVER………(the BIBLE of fantasy, in fact): Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit, books, movies and animation……EXCEPT Bakshi's Lord of the Rings………that was dismal. I'm more into Sci-Fi than fantasy, but I've read some "Dragonriders", and Tad Williams, too.
|Some of my HORROR favorites include:||
We already talked about the Vampire movies.
I liked the "Blair Witch Project" (I would only watch it after dark by myself, to enhance the effect)………"Hostel" was pretty effective………
……again: more sci-fi than horror for me, but I've seen my share over my years
|Some of my ANIMATION-ANIME favorites include:||
Big fan of anime. "Akira", "Ghost in the Shell" (both of the movies and the series), "Steamboy", "Metropolis" (well: BOTH Fritz Zang's AND Tezuka's), "Aeon Flux" and pretty much anything by Peter Chung, "Spirited Away" or pretty much anything by Miyazaki, "Cowboy BeBop",
Non-Anime: "Futurama", "American Dad", "Golan the Insatiable", "Axe Cop", "The Venture Brothers"
|Some of my COMIC BOOK/MANGA/WEBCOMIC favorites include:||
I collected comic books up until College (I'm a "Silver-Age"/"Bronze-Age" straddling baby) , so I've depended on animation and movies to catch me up to what's happening now.
Batman, Superman, X-Men, Avengers, Teen Titans, Power Girl, Spider-Man, Spawn………etc, etc, etc
|Some of my GAMING favorites include:||
I never got past Nintendo………not even to Super-Nintendo
|Some of my FILM, TV etc... SCORING favorites include:||
I used to collect film sound-tracks. I'd see a movie, and run right out to get the soundtrack at the record store.
Composers might be a quicker way to list this: Bill Conti, Jerry Goldsmith, Angelo Badalamenti, Bear McCreary, Larry Fast (Synergy), Wendy (formerly: Walter) Carlos, Danny Elfman, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, James Horner, T Bone Burnett, Michael Giacchino, Ry Cooder, Vangelis, …………okay, okay: I'll put John Williams on the list, too.
|Some of my SIGNING/AUTOGRAPH EVENT favorites include:||
I don't actively seek-out autographs, but I got Eddie Deezen's, Pee-Wee Herman's (Paul Reubens), and the "Late-Night" Mister Pete's autographs………does that count?
|Some of my COLLECTIBLES favorites include:||
My mother keeps buying me Pez-dispensers.
|Some of my CONVENTION favorites include:||
Fans in costumes, artists, and celebrity panels
|Some of my COSPLAY favorites include:||
Off-model, unusual twist on the usual, like Steam-punk interpretations
|Some of my FAN CLUB/FAN ORGANIZATION favorites include:||
I was a card-carrying member of the Jerry Mahoney Club when I was a kid, and I have a vintage button that says I'm a Beatles fan…………does that count?
