Having grrown up with D&D I've seen about as much of faerun as I've ever wanted to. I was always sad that some of the more interesting campign settings got left in the dust as newer editions came out... my all time favorite was Spelljammer. Your rare to get a navel adventure but with spelljammer you could have your swashbuckling action and tie it into any other interesting world your GM could come up with...
Planescape was a close second but that requires a really dedicated DM. The Planes are a strange and dangerous place where logic will not help you. It's very easy to loose control of a Planescape campign but when it works it's damn memorable...
Honorable mention goes to Council of Wyrms, always loved the concept (Dragon PCs!) but no one would ever consider playing it. Which is a shame you could really mix things up and have very different adventures... but what with how dragons and rules evolved it was a setting that just doesn't work anymore.

what about you all? favorite setting of any fantasy game, originals too if you can give a rundown why it sticks with you :-)

Well, I've always been a big fan of eberron. I love the whole magic-punk kind of feel. It makes for a slightly more industrialized setting without really limiting the usefulness of melee characters. You can play urban settings, you can play out in the wilderness, it's just such a wide variety of cool areas, each with their own feel.

As for original settings, I'm actually working on my own, and it's kinda consumed my life for the past six months or so. Alt-history setting plus magic, based around american colonial times. The chinese colonize the west coast, the aztec defeat cortez and steal spanish technology, and the northlands are dominated by frost giants. Oh, and a bunch of other changes. Like, the continued existence of some pleistocene megafauna (including mammoth domestication), and the mississippian mound builder culture staying intact.

Honestly, for some reason I have always loved the Eastern fantasy settings. There is something so insanely beautiful about fighting hordes of people with the feeling of airbrushed calligraphy like clouds. Also, the honor systems are amazing. From a role-playing standpoint, using honor as a means to give bonus' is such a good way for players to be completely immersed into a setting. With that being said, I would have to say that Jade Empire is my favorite fantasy setting with Legend of the Five Rings following close behind.

About to DM Cerulean Seas here. Love the lore of the undersea races, and the 3D combat system is definitely going to be interesting. Plus Alluria's artwork is always top-notch and gives you a good visual for what this world is like.

Adding my own touch to this world, the campaign setting says that the religions in the Cerulean Seas are all highly regulated. Seems like a world ripe for a religious reformation if I've ever seen one...

I LOVE Eberron!

The artificer is an awesome class (and the only one guaranteed to have magic items), changeling rogues can gain a bonus of 1/3 their level on Knowledge checks if they take the changeling rogue 3 racial substitution level, and if it's in D&;D, it has a place in Eberron. Yay incarnum!

I know, the pic is really the magus, but I couldn't find a good duskblade.

I prefer a sci fi setting, aboard a starship, a rundown space station or alien ruins on a distant planet...

Thieves' World has good novels. Hear the game plays good too.
Other than that, I loooove me some Shadowrun.

I do online post by post role playing and my favourite settings are fantasy settings with more than just your regular 'elves, fairies, dragons'. I like it when people mix things up a bit and put some thought into it. I'm most interested in storytelling, because I'm a writer. I help run the 'Miracle of Life: a Pregnant RPing Guild' on Gaia Online. I like kink rps too.

My heart will always belong to the Forgotten Realms.
