We’re calm because there’s still a chance someone could get to Yatta-ta in time. If someone was following him as he chased the running Urrt, they could deal with the archer. After that, it’s a matter of getting the healer there in short order to fix him up.

But if there’s no one following Yatta, or they don’t get the archer before he fires, and that second arrow goes through his heart or neck, then it’s fare thee well Yatta-ta and see ya in the Otherwhen…

Everyone seems so CALM! I know there’s a chance he’ll be healed, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, YATTA-TA! I hope he DOES get healed! If he doesn’t, that would be AWFUL!

Actually, speaking as someone who has had surgery in that specific area, that arrow will either have pierced the liver (which regenerates!) or the gallbladder (tiny target, but not exactly a vital organ; I’m missing my own, after all). It may even have nicked the pancreas, but my bet is the liver. It’s too low to be the lungs and too high to be the intestines. And, on the bonus side, the barbed head has already gone through, so removing the shaft will be (relatively) easy.

…I just don’t recommend doing that until they have a magic-wielding healer on hand, or a hot, skinny poker to cauterize the wound and prevent internal bleeding.

Maybe an unusual corkscrew ?

The exit wound appears to be very slightly inferior to the lower costal margin, slightly to the right of the midline (translation: just below the ribs, slightly on Yatta’s right hand side). Depending on the site of entry, whether he was inhaling or exhaling at the time, and individual anatomical variation, he could have experienced penetrative trauma to some combination of his stomach, liver, pancreas, upper bowel, right kidney, the lower border of his right lung, and any of a number of major blood vessels. Disregarding the second incoming arrow for now:

Short term prognosis: very poor if any of the major blood vessels or liver were hit (he’ll bleed out), not so bad otherwise. Long term prognosis: I’m guessing healing magic would make this not so much of a concern. But until he gets some, he’d realistically be expected to be incapacitated, which may well prove fatal in itself. But then, this is fantasy, and the trope of fighting on through the pain is a powerful one…

As AdamZero notes, they had someone with them who could save Yatta-Ta by magic. But is he still with them, and can he get there soon enough?
