Wow. This is kind of a sweet moment. There’s a whole lotta love for everybody.

The more we see of Nan, the more we like her–and I know I’m speaking for a lot of your readers, JED. She deserves happiness. Yeah yeah, she’s not a real person in our universe, but in an infinite multiverse, there is a Nan out there, this Nan, and she deserves her happiness. Bill does, too. May they each find the right person for ‘em.

*takes deep breath* : yay !

Oh god, Nan’s last line…
Must resist… Can’t make the obvious joke…
Can’t hold it…
“THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!!!!”
Sorry, i’ll go be ashamed in the corner…
October 25th, 2012 at 5:13 am
Ha. Looks like they’ll continue having fun and maybe even become friends.
And Nan, you are as real as they get, sweetie.
October 25th, 2012 at 7:32 am
Nan is fabulous. Bill, don’t be a jerk, look inside that flesh and blood body… you can do that. See Nan for what SHE really is. See her very soul. And fall for her. She can make you happy the way you can make her happy too.

the conversation felt a bit rushed and awkward, but the sentiment behind it was touching. And major points for including a reference to a favorite childhood book of mine.

@Crownedclown: I don’t think he’s being a jerk, it’s just taking him some time to adjust.

Bill’s velvateen rabbit reference made me cry a little bit. I loved that story. I think this guy’s alright and damn he’s gonna be good for Nan. As a friend or anything else.
October 25th, 2012 at 9:47 am
For those of us who have never heard of that book - Google to the rescue:

Kinda hard to believe, since we have no background on this guy…but okay.
You sure do love your music, JD

I know, tricksterson. Just cheering him up to go… “Straight” this way :3
October 26th, 2012 at 9:17 am
I think we have the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

No, don’t make Bill and Nan a couple! Everyione does not have to pair up and putting them together so fast is a little preachy… friends are good.
October 26th, 2012 at 5:42 pm
I want to second what Ed just said. It’s OK if Bill is “straight”. He can be friends with Nan without changing HIS orientation to take their relationship to another level. Actually, I think it’s especially wonderful that he’s comfortable dancing with Nan BECAUSE he’s hetero. It says good things about his maturity and personality.

A couple of things: I think the next update will be either late tonight or sometime tomorrow. And it won’t have anything to do directly with Bill and Nan.
That being said, I think I may safely say, decades later, that Bill and Nan’s two pages of the spotlight is semi autobiographical, as some bits and pieces of this silly little soap opera tend to be.
The thing about living in Hollywood, at the time I lived in it, is that it was a pretty sleazy little pit. And at the Santa Monica and Wilcox coordinates, (little theater district) there were a lot of TS and gay clubs and a lot of semi-women plying their wares on the street - and also NOT plying their wares even though they were on the street, though the cops seldom made the distinction when doing their sweeps. Your humble storyteller, as a very young (and pretty, but let’s not get into that) man who (thunderingly STUPIDLY) thought that once you sold the old clunker with a fix-it ticket on it, the problem disappeared, was arrested on a bench warrant along with some of the semi-women, both innocent and otherwise, and tossed in the jug by extremely unsympathetic Hollywood cops for a coupler of very educational days. We shared the back seat of the prowler on the way, were held together in the tank (along with one of the dancers from “Cats,” actually. Nice guy once he apologized for trying to kill me) to Wilcox Station and went to LA County Jail. (The “Glass House” as it was referred to by those who were frequent guests. )
Without exception, even with the years of perspective, I find the TS girls in that experience, even the ones who were on the game, to be nicer, less offensive and more attractive than the people who were putting them down. I made friends with one pretty young black “girl,” though it never went further than that. And so, from the best of that experience, I created Nan. Yes, she’s a little better than reality, (this IS a comic, not a documentary) but not much.
And I can tell you that, in my experience, personal and observed, the attractiveness of a person is far more a quotient of their mind, their spirit and their emotional openness and generosity - the entire gestalt of their affect - rather than what their gender identification or confusion might be.
That’s all. Bill and Nan will be only what they will be. Right now they are only friends. But as Yoda once sagely observed, “Always in motion the future is.”
Warmest regards,
JED

There, Friend JED, you have spoken wisdom. Some of the least visually attractive people I have ever known were also some of the most beautiful people I have known.

“I do anything thats got a beat to it”
Is my mind in the gutter or did she just make a joke about a pulse being the only requirement for her sexual partners?

Jed, I know we haven’t really commented on your art for a while, so today I want to make an art comment; Are you aware that your characters once again suffer from ‘light in mouth’ syndrome?
Also since you wrote an update would come later today, I will assume this means tomorrow for me; it’s already evening here.
