And here we are - Page 600 and look - something important to the story has just happened.
Lord, let me tell you I have had a week - this should have happened on Friday, but it didn’t thanks to my belived niece escaping the wildfires of CO Springs to meet her sister in San Diego - and how often does she come to Cali? Not often. So Uncle John drove three hours each way to spend quality time, and very happy to do so. But then I had to work practically all weekend, getting bits of 600 done as I could - and here it is. It will hopefully get better from here on, but there you go. They are now in the same room. What’s gonna happen next? Not tellin.

Yeah, if there was ever any doubt that Mentl brings out the female cha that her physical male cha overbalances (or whatever the explanation was back then) It’s gone for me now.

You’re right Descartes, that this search could have gone on for another 100 pages or more. But the more I think about it, the more I think the “BOOK” took the girls in close, and then let them do the work from there. No way the book was going to delay his return to the world he belongs in.
I was not however, expecting the fan girl squeal!

Well I’m sure this will be repeated a lot but I absolutely love the last panel, Nan’s reaction too. Also that she sort of recognized Mentl from the “description” she got. XD As for predictions I want to toss my in my hat the ring, I think Mentl will light up like the sun when he sees her. Then he will remember why he ran and all the guilt and self doubt will rush in at once and his face will fall. Will he try to run though that’s what I’m trying to figure out. Zona would have to chase him and that would be strong writing but I’l guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Darn.

Actually…I’m all for the Tula-love right now. She’s getting the “gorgeous redhead discount” at the front gate…just like she got mobbed at the front gate back home by all those men wanting to know if she’d dance First Dance with one of them. Zona’s shocked look of love & excitement is cute, the screams very 50’s/60’s heartthrob/teen-crush…but Tula. Tula has her own charm. <3

Oooookay. That is not the reaction I would have expected for Zona. But my real question still looms. Just how is Mentl going to react? I’m still leaning towards drug induced hallucination myself. I don’t think he’s going to believe she could be real.

No doubt Mentl’s in for a rib-crackin’ GLOMP. And probably a good hard shoulder-punch or three. Especially when Zona hears the reason he left.
All in all, poor guy may be in need of Tula’s healing magic before he can return to Erogenia.

I expect a full throated barbarian yell of “Mentl” as she leaps over the railing to land on what ever underneath and rush the stage. As for Mentl, I don’t think he would have enough time to realize what was happening other then bodies are being flung about out of the way of something big coming towards him in a hurry.
Actually he will see her and stop in mid play as his mind struggles to comprehend that she is there is what I think will happen next.

Something a lot like that, yeah, though with more enthusiastic hugging after the tackle. Which is why I mentioned Mentl needing medical attention for his ribs afterwards.
Come to think of it Mentl’s gonna need medical attention for all over if Zona tackles him like that. Never mind how many times she’s gonna punch him for leaving her without even so much as a “goodbye”, and how many MORE times after he finally gets to explain WHY he left; I mean, implying that she’s so weak-minded as to be magically seduced instead of falling for him of her own free will? Zona’s reaction to that…insult alone could put the poor man in traction.

It occurs to me now that everybody was wrong. Zona was not bewitched by Mentl’s music - but by his “package.” She certainly seems to mention it quite a bit.

I don’t think it would be an insult to Zona, she and everyone around yher knows that she is too grounded in the earthly plain. Vito said this to Tula way back, and well, mom dearest and the priest and shaman were the ones that put the idea in Mentl’s head, and they should be aware of their Champions magical resistance.
All in all, Zona should be able to understand the reasoning. Doesn’t mean she likes it…

MacNut, I’d say the cha needs to be balanced -toward- Mentl, not away. He punished himself pretty damn thoroughly by removing himself from Zona’s presence, and world, and everything he’d grown to love…and he didn’t really need to. It’s the priestess, priest, and queen who need to balance a lot of that cha toward him, by helping him learn to control his abilities and by believing Zona AND Tula–who you’d think have noticed any controlling spells of that nature by now–when they say Mentl didn’t brainwash her. He augmented the feelings in the songs, yes, but there have only been 4 songs he’s applied to a person deliberately. Great Balls of Fire, Shotgun, Body Language, and smacking that otherwhen yakko out of the ballpark. (The confrontation with Pontigar doesn’t count, because he never finished the chorus.)

I was initially taken aback by how unusual, for Zona, is her expression in the last panel. But AdamZero explanation not only has reconciled me with it, but it has given me a new appreciation of it.
I like how your characters are not mono dimensional and are still capable to surprise us.

Oh derp, you’re right, Hack! I totally forgot that one!
Still, in all of these examples, the only one where he -intended- to take over someone’s will…well, we saw what happened to Ginsha in that tavern on the borderlands. Here Comes The Sun is an excellent example of what Mentl -normally- wants to do with his musical intent, nothing but benefit for and enjoyment by others. Odds are, he’s focusing solely on giving people a good time with his music right now, and there’s no harm in that.
…Unless you’re so grumpy and contrary and emo that you think it’s an offense to your cha that someone should dare to want to cheer you up. In which case, I say a stinging slap upside the head might work better than a song, but that’s just me.

@Jean: I completely agree, on the second count as well. In fact, I would say that the very concept of using music as a weapon is probably disturbing to Mentl. Not that this has stopped him when he had to act, of course.
Um, I can’t see the guitar strap either, by the way. Hopefully that is a readily fixable problem.

Ha, Zona the fangirl wasn’t what I had expected, but it surely is fun.
Nan’s line ‘cant’ be sure with his pants on, but…’ had me cracking up! Lol. Zona’s description was apparently good enough for Nan.

Page 601 is half-finished. It was supposed to go up last night, but I got roped into a business dinner until very late. Nice. Sitting next to my boss’s boss who’s a sharp, affable and voluble Irishman. The wine and liquor flowed. Uncle John kept his head and did not manage to imperil his main source of income, but Zona was bumped a tad off schedule. 601 should be up late tonight.

Priorities are good. Someday you’ll get a nice backlog of pages ahead, putting two a week on the site while making three a week most weeks… and then the strip will be on time like clockwork. But that time is not yet.
