The moon rock you can touch was in the Natural History museum the last time I was there, which is admittedly about 15 years ago. That's another awesome ride in the fossils and minerals section. I hope they've updated the fusty old stuffed animals, though.

Yeah, go with the impact theory of lunar creation, and it would have lighter stuff

No one should think less of anyone for any reaction at a place like The Wall or Ground Zero. You don't know how it feels until you've been to both. And then you won't criticze

The rocks were a long time ago, one small one - frankly, it felt like a rock.

yllwdrgn - The time was short. My friend Michelle was - "What do you want to do?" and began breathlessly running down a long list of things, attractions, monuments, etc. I, on the other hand, was there mostly to see them, and then also to see the NASM. I refuse to rush around, in a hurry to relax on my vacation. : )

Ed - Yes. More than one grown man in tears as we walked down The Wall, myself nearly one of them. I saw three moon rocks on display, and there was none I noticed that were open to being touched. Still, I could easily miss something. The place is, well, kinda big. Did you know that there are no heavy metals on the Moon? None. That kind of surprised me.

Thanks, all. I did have a wonderful time. First time ever in DC, and I went absolutely apeshit in the NASM. Seeing all the real-world originals of most of the Revell models I made as a kid, and seeing the Space Shuttle, and actually seeing the original Wright Flyer. Naturally, Steve, I thought of Grandpa. (Our grandfather was a Dayton OH native, and actually hung out around the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop. )

And an honor to go visit The Wall, at last, and on Memorial Day Weekend, too. 68,195 names. Every one of them a human being.

maintaining contact with friends is very important; it should be considered as important as reading and writting but sadly it isn't. Maintain those contacts at all times possible---they are more valuable than you can realise.

Glad you had some fun travel time. I also got your thoughtful b-day present. MAN was that a great series or what? One of my new favorite comic strips is Rip Haywire - direct parody of Race Bannon. And some of those monsters are still classic. THANKS!
