Kathy’s Song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoDmVkA35fc&feature=related
May 12th, 2010 at 1:58 am
The queen snuck the flute in didnt she? I bet she wants to know if Mentl magiked up her daughter.
May 12th, 2010 at 2:08 am
Interesting song.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:10 am
Nice Choice, JED.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:20 am
One of my favourite Simon & Garfunkel.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:42 am
Mentl is smart enough to check up with Tula before starting.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:52 am
Whoo, more songs! Regardless of whether or not magic happens, which has been the case so far, these are my favorite moments in this comic. I’m not very well-versed in the classics, so it’s always an education when a helpful commentor supplies a youtube vid of the song on display.
May 12th, 2010 at 4:16 am
Still nothing tops GREAT BALLS OF FIRE XD…yet ; )
May 12th, 2010 at 4:32 am
Well the worst that can happen with this is that is begins to rain. The page speaks volume about the serenity of the nights end. Very nice indeed!
May 12th, 2010 at 5:56 am
Unless it starts raining and doesn’t stop…. hmmmm off to look up songs for sunny skies…
May 12th, 2010 at 6:56 am
A very gentle choice….interesting. I do like Kathy’s song…but the focus is not the rain (unlesss Mentl makes it so) =) So I am not sure that is is time to start gathering the animals 2 by 2….Since it is about the person the artist loves…and the importance she is in his life…I think Mentl will be okay here…It kind of reminds me a little of the song “Your Eyes” from the Broadway show/movie RENT…just some early morning musing before coffee =D
May 12th, 2010 at 8:25 am
GREAT choice! “The only truth I know is you”
May 12th, 2010 at 8:35 am
It’s amazing; Mentl is surrounded be all those buff-body warriors, but he’s probably the most dangerous there.
Nice work, by the way. Thanks for sharing your awesome comic!
May 12th, 2010 at 8:38 am
Wow! had to reach back to 1966 for that one. You need to rip a Mentyl Playlist…..
May 12th, 2010 at 9:44 am
enjoyable as always!
May 12th, 2010 at 10:25 am
@Blues Diffuse: First off, he’s playing a LUTE, not a FLUTE. Second, if he were playing a FLUTE, he couldn’t sing. Third, and most importantly, look at the second panel of the previous comic (page 361), where the lute is shown materializing next to the bench by the back wall. If you look carefully at the lute in that panel, it’s semi-transparent, to the point that you can make out the bench leg and the boundary between the wall and floor through the body of the lute. Also, Mentl, who knows the Erogenian attitude toward lies and liars, tells Zona that he wasn’t the one who brought the lute, and looks surprised when Zona’s handing it to him.
Give Ipola some credit for intelligence. Why would she do a test of an unknown and possibly suspect enchanter in the middle of her court, at night when nearly everyone is tired, the visibility of objects that aren’t glowing is suspect, and most of the people have been drinking?
Sorry about this, I didn’t mean to come across as hostile.
May 12th, 2010 at 10:26 am
That was great JED!
I’ve been worried since the first dance stuff starts and Mentl had to play drums… when I saw that Mentl was about to play the lute… well man, I was TWICE worried… I hope it doesn’t finish in a underwater tribe.
I’m also have to say that I’m a little bit sad with this suspicions about Zona’s beautifull love been magical and not real.
May 12th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
I cheated- went and read the lyrics that went with the y0utube link…
I can guess what the last panel of the next page will be.
Would also like to request Tom Wait’s “Ol ‘55″ for when we see Yatta-Ta stagger out of that tent at 4 in the morning.
May 12th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
My guess would be that Vito’s responsible for the lute. And whether anything remotely magic happens or not, I’m still interested in the Erogenian’s reaction to the song.

Blues Diffuse - Weeeeelllll, I ain’t tellin!
That is, until I do tell. VGA
Ubersoldat - Yes, many lovely levels, very subtle and introspective.
TheLastGarou - Thanks. I was wavering there at the last minute, but I had written this one in a long time ago and I think it will accomplish exactly what I want.
Addup2 - Me, too.
Lora - Oh, yah. He’s got a little sechel.
Kosine - Well, happy to oblige.
zangoules - Oh, eventually I’m gonna have to, but not this time.
Gremalkin - Hah! The best kiss I ever had was in the rain. I didn’t even think about that until you mentioned it.
Blue - Too many to mention: “Sunny,” “Let The Sunshine In,” “Here Comes The Sun,” etc, etc.
Soulworker - It’s allllll about intention, either conscious or unconscious. The trick is to get complete control of your intention.
Elvis - My favorite line.
GhostEraser - And he is, indeed, in a room with very powerful people. And thanks for reading!
Steve - Yup. Long ago and far, far away in San Bernardino.
Karyl - Thanks, we work hard to make it so.
Lictre - You are correct in your facts, and I am sure we know that you don’t mean to come off as strident, even if you did. Y’all be cool, now.
shaolin - The “Moo-blubnblubnblubnn” Tribe? =D And yes, these are still questions that are up in the air.
mr_oof - Ah, so you can guess what the last panel will be on page 363? Good, `cause I don’t know myself, yet.
As to Yatta-ta’s stagger, it might be more of a swaying swagger. He’ll probably be a bit full of himself next time we see him.
Greencheese - All that you will see sometime Friday night.
May 12th, 2010 at 1:53 pm
@John@Lora - takes definite sechel to admit when you are unsure and to trust someone else’s judgment about you that much. For those without a bissel yiddishkeit, an oversimplification would be: “brass ones”
@John@Mr_oof - I don’t think Yatta-ta will be that full of himself. Kinda of unloaded in fact. This should go a long way to curing his case of charisn’tma. Maldik, however would be incurable.
What-have-you-done-for-me-lately department: What’s up with Tethik? HIMYF? If Ipola is calling out a muster of the tribes, will we be seeing Pontagar again? He really needs to get his butt kicked some more.If only because Brantik and Carshik give such awesome smirk! No shortage of other candidates if Mentl keeps out of it: Yatta-Ta, Sheahla (the first because we can count on Pontagar’s opinion of Kivalians, and the second because of his ability to withhold his opinion), Rannik (I know he’s being noble and so forth, but he might have a tad bit of aggro in there), maybe even Tehik, because Ponty is just not as tough as a Bull. The possibilities are endless.
May 12th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
ICWT - *sigh* Well, if you must know or wish to keep track of it, after this we will have one more short scene in the Valley Of The Moon with a supporting character we have not seen in awhile, then over to Kivalia and then back to Erogenia.
And nobody kills Humperdink. He lives.
May 12th, 2010 at 2:33 pm
Life isn’t fair …
May 12th, 2010 at 8:29 pm
“I have come to doubt all I once knew was true” - what a perfect song.
May 12th, 2010 at 9:20 pm
From a pure pictorial perspective (without all that pesky text and storyline) in my opinion the third panel is definitely one of the best ones you have done, so far.
May 12th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Fit the mood mate.
Thanks for the link as well.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:34 pm
…Does he at least keep his perfect ears, if he *must* live?
May 12th, 2010 at 11:50 pm
Can’t go far wrong with Simon and Garfunkel…most of their stuff is pretty mellow…
May 13th, 2010 at 2:50 am
Jed, you came up with a much better word for my apparent mood than I, and I thank you for it.
I’m a chronic depressive, and I’ve been swinging into one of my reclusive/anti-social phases, so it looks like I’ll have to start watching the ‘tone’ of my phrasing more closely. However, the discussion for page 361 had pointed out how the lute was appearing in place, rather than being carried in and set there.
I’m trying to give Mentl credit for cultural lessens he’s been learning since his appearance in this world, and other characters appropriate credit for their own displayed attributes, be they mental, physical, magical, or spiritual. By that measure, Ipola’s gotta be both intelligent and alert, or politics might have eaten her alive. Instead, she’s apparently securely situated in a position of power, able to bring together a number of tribes. She’d try to minimize the damage of possible mistakes, even while taking the measure of uncertain elements in close proximity to her people.
May 13th, 2010 at 6:29 am
Aww, no zap.
Now i have to go kill myself for saying that.
May 13th, 2010 at 8:29 am
Jean, I love you just a little bit more for that comment.
Also, wasn’t sure of the song so I looked it up…wonder if I could play that? Stick with Christy Moore for now, methinks.
May 13th, 2010 at 9:32 am
That lute keeps popping up. Does it have a mind of its own? Is Mentl conjuring it up, Vito sending it in, or is there a third party at work?
May 13th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Well, JED, if I may be so bold (and you haven’t started on the next panel yet…) I see Mentl bringing a gentle rain to the plains… and rivulets running down the side of a guard tower…
PS. if this is too close to the truth, feel free to erase this comment and steal the idea for yourself.
May 13th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Good choice.
I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls
And from the shelter of my mind
Through the window of my eyes
I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets
To England where my heart lies
My mind’s distracted and diffused
My thoughts are many miles away
They lie with you when you’re asleep
And kiss you when you start your day
And a song I was writing is left undone
I don’t know why I spend my time
Writing songs I can’t believe
With words that tear and strain to rhyme
And so you see I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you
And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I
May 14th, 2010 at 12:15 am
@ElfGuy: Simon & Garfunkle are pretty mellow, but Mentl probably ought to avoid The Sound of Silence and Scarbarough Faire. Silence is about death and ‘Faire is about the Black Plague. Probably not things he’d want to risk manifesting around people he likes -or anyone really- given the nature of Bubonic plague.
May 14th, 2010 at 11:21 am
Ah, but remember, Garou. Magick in this world is all about intent. The lyrics have no independent power, save as a focus for what’s inside.
If he can be in the moment here, desireless, then the lyrics to this song do not matter. That’s what Tula is trying to tell him.
Of course, it’s still a song whose lyrics retain their non-magical effect. Which is likely to raise Mentl’s popularity level with many Erogenian women.
May 14th, 2010 at 11:26 am
thanks, JED for making the type between a brighter color! I can really read it now.
May 14th, 2010 at 3:35 pm
@TheLastGarou
um…no…Scarborough Faire is one of those “I used to love you but I don’t anymore” songs - it’s a list of impossible tasks the singers old lover must complete before he’ll take her back.
It’s “Ring around the rosie” that is about the plague.
May 14th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
@Jean - OTOH, Humperdinck never had to put up with Yanora and Kendrik’s cruelty in naming their sons! Even Eleanor and Henry gave their sons normal names no matter how screwed up they were as parents. His brother would be OK at any rank, but Maldik will never be satisfied until he is King Maldik.
May 15th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
For those confused by that, please note the last pronounced sound in the word “Prince”
May 15th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
Never even thought of that! LOL!
But it did make me think of this: http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/95
May 16th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
Point taken, Coming up with puns that bad for both brothers without even thinking about it probably says something about your inner 12- year old.
