Just to let ya know …
We will be starting to update twice a week again. This week.
The new page was supposed to be up today.
Do you see any new page here? No? Well, you should see something by tonight. Do you want to hear excuses? No?
Well, let’s just say that Vista is a purulent pox on the computing world, and somewhere there are developers out there whose souls are marked for at least a century of purgatory, spent debugging the Cobol version of Poser 8.
Arrrgh.

Considering none of us were expecting it, I don’t think anyone is going to complain.
But yay! Can’t wait - in a good way, of course.

Vista is indeed a spawn of the Devil. It completely crashed the local minister’s files and then took on the church office. It won handily, leaving the office staff staring into the hellmouth of Bill Gates. So to speak.

But..but, I thought Vista was going to be the BEST version of Windows EVAR!!! You mean, Microsoft sold yet another Bill of goods?

So, does Poser run under any other OS, like maybe Mac or Linux? Perhaps ’tis time for a migration…

Well, having recently built a new system and gone directly to Windows 7 I can say the following…..
UPGRADE. NOW!
Windows 7 is everything Vista wanted to be. Get the Pro version and you can run programs in compatibility mode all the way back to Windows 95. I’ve had to deal with Vista on a couple of my family’s machines and Windows 7 is light-years better…

Put me in for 5 bucks, Lebbrin. and if anyone buys it outright for him, I’ll fold something MAGNIFICENT and mail it to them! A dragon, perhaps?

Two problems are likely here.
Vista is indeed horrific. I concur that you should dump it for Windows 7.
Second is Poser 8 itself. They really need to get the bugs that have been plaguing Poser since 5 out of there instead of just adding more. We have serious Poser 8 stability issues and if we must use Poser wind up using Poser 6 when we aren’t forced to use 8.

JED sweetie…two words.
Windows 7.
It really works.

First of all,, Bill had nothing to do with Vista. He was already out of the company at that point. Second, Windows 7 is, in fact, Vista, however it’s the corrected version of it. I ran it in Beta and have had only 2 minor problems thus far, both of which were fixed by release. I highly recommend upgrading to the Pro version of Windows 7. Pro has an XP node that lets you run XP programs without problem. It’s a native virtual machine. So if Poser won’t work in 7 for some odd reason, you can load it into the XP desktop. I’ve run multiple applications this way without problems.
Best of luck, and thanks for all the enjoyment.

One of my favorite scenes from John Birmingham’s Axis of Time trilogy when a multinational, but mainly US and NATO, Navy task force from 2020 wormholes back to 1942 alternate universe. Of course most of it goes to the USA and allies, but the Japs, Nazis and Soviets get a bit too.
Himmler (head of the SS) is being given trouble by his portable computer and he thinks: “Wilhelm Gates, you are evil and your family will pay!” (Bill was born in 1955.)
LOL!

As a freelance CG animator, I can tell you that NOBODY went to Vista from XP. However, even at the beta stage, all of the tech guys I know (top studio guys) were on board with Windows 7. I’ve been using it hardcore for the past three months with 3DS Max, Maya and various compositing programs. Haven’t crashed once. They got it right. Upgrade.
