This particular image will almost certainly not be in page 355. As I try to coordinate dozens of models dancing, drumming, clapping, etc and making it not look stupid, there are a LOT of mechanical details to work out and problems to solve. This is one of the first sketches. Not completely happy with the pose, and there will be at least two to three times as many dancers in the shot when it’s done. Anyway, wanted to at least give you a little taste of what ytou’ll be seeing on Friday. Thanks and blessed be, all.
March 31st, 2010 at 12:02 am
Woo Hoo! Let the dancing begin! Can’t wait for the real page. Looks good JED.
March 31st, 2010 at 12:14 am
Well this particular move explains Tula’s ’stretch’ on the last page - and here I thought she had just been posing…
March 31st, 2010 at 12:27 am
Oh, my! That shot of Zona’s skirt could be viewed as VERY naughty. Anyway, let the dancing begin!
March 31st, 2010 at 12:37 am
Beautiful shot, nice composition. Even if this shot’s not in the sequence, this is gonna be one hell of a dance. Makes me wonder if there’s even anyone left afterward for the rest of the dance party or if everyone just runs off to one-on-one parties immediately….
March 31st, 2010 at 1:02 am
Hm… not really fond of that pose for Zona. It hides her assets and overstates her musculature. While I don’t particularly have a problem with that under normal circumstances, I think it conflicts with the intent of the image.
March 31st, 2010 at 2:35 am
why i have this feelings that mentl will risk to lose Zona? the look in that erogenian guy and in Zona is unsettling…
anyway i agree with wolfgang : maybe a bit too muscles inZona’s arms
March 31st, 2010 at 3:21 am
As i have said before John, quality takes time! But in the end it is all worth it. This teaser looks like it came from a movie, very slick and powerfull.
March 31st, 2010 at 3:46 am
@SamDemPuppy: Nothing revealing about that shot, Zona’s got an undergarment - Panty or Gstring style. It’s a dark color. If the exposed patch was blonde matching her hair, THEN it would be naughty.
As for her musculature, that’s the way she’s built and it’s not going to magically change for one dance. Apparently she was a great dancer in the past even if muscle-bulgy. We also know she can leap quite high and far. Zona jumping over the fire to come down dancing right in front of Mentl would be a great move.
March 31st, 2010 at 5:33 am
Wow, great teaser, JED.
Even if the pic is not done it’s looking good.
March 31st, 2010 at 5:52 am
It may nto work for you, Wolfgang, but that’s okay. It’s Mentl who fell in love with the warrior woman slashing and hacking her highly muscled way through those Urtts, waaay back when. Mentl likes it, so that’s good enough for him.
I have found my corset.
I shall endeavor to get a shot of me wearing it at Norwescon, since I have plans…muahahahahaha, oh yesss, plansss…on what to wear with it…
March 31st, 2010 at 5:52 am
(The hard part will be finding my camera so I CAN have a picture taken of it!)
March 31st, 2010 at 6:23 am
Thought i’d pop in again!
Still following your work with great interest JED!
Curious about what you will toss for the full page :p
Cheers!
March 31st, 2010 at 6:49 am
Oh my….oh my…soo pretty…. drool…..We are sorry but JED’s teaser page has short circuited Soulworker’s mental hardware by causing him to create a Jean-esque drool puddle…No no buckets are unnecessary…and a reboot will occur… Again? Are you serious? Okay…perhaps a bucket (or 2) will be helpful…
March 31st, 2010 at 7:26 am
since when are muscles not sexy? Granted some female body builders go (in my opinion) too far but none the less Zona’s other “attributes” are a clear reminder of the female form and I think the muscles add to the attractiveness of her physic.
@ Jorily Mentl risk losing Zona? I don’t see that happening. I don’t think there is a force on their world that could at this point keep them apart.
@ Jean- could we take a vote on whether we want to see a pic of you wearing ANYTHING with the corset? This started as a lesson in corsets and how they fit, why distract from that? Less is more after all…
I can see the “hits” count on your webpage going up already…
March 31st, 2010 at 8:30 am
Whoa. And Yum.
March 31st, 2010 at 9:44 am
Callisto: You know that’s exactly what they say right before an evil sorcerers vortex spin cycles the two lovers apart? Way to Jinx it bro.
Also, while I agree with you in spirit, let’s not get creepy.
Jean: Yes. Please do. Thank you very much. A sheer white robe would be fine for a simple demonstration of corset physics, or maybe just some strategically placed Ribbons?
March 31st, 2010 at 10:02 am
Cue ZZ Top.
March 31st, 2010 at 11:42 am
I agree with calisto. Zona is muscular, and there’s no way they’re not gonna show in a pose like that. She looks very fine to me.
March 31st, 2010 at 12:11 pm
Awesome page, as always. (btw, anyone else suddenly think of Adam ant the Ants with this pose, or is it just me?
March 31st, 2010 at 12:28 pm
Lebbrin - We aim to please.
The bitch always seems to be getting all the factors in the cloth simulation to work right. Then, also memory management with all the figures.
Hwyla - Well, yes, but in general there’s a lot og upper body movement planned.
SamuraiDemonPuppy - Well, suggestive, yes, but she is quite decently covered, as you may see.
Enne - Well, there will be quite a bit of fallout that way, but even so there should be a bit of an after-party.
Wolfgang - I quite agree. I said I wasn’t happy with the pose, and you’ve articulated it. Yes, she’s a powerhouse, but I’m going to try to highlight her feminine side a bit more, so that pose/angle isn’t the most flattering. Still, solved a few problems with this.
Jorily - All things are possible in these types of tales, but tonight, at leaast, Zona’s definitely still digging on Mentl.
Gremalkin - Thanks so much. I see all the mistakes, of course, so I can’t call it “slick.” Wait until Friday.
Sarge - I still think I can choose angles and poses that show off her more girly bits a little more than the underlying pecs and biceps. Still playing around a bit.
Lora - Mucho thanks!
Jean - Don’t put yourself out on our account. Flannels with bunny slippers should be fine.
Apunkalipse - Gladtaseeya! Oh, it’s actually going to be about three pages or more of dancindancindancin.
Soulworker - *smack!* SNAPOUTTOFITT! (heh! My favorite line from “Moonstruck.”) Glad you appreciate the imagery.
calisto - I think muscles are very sexy,(obviously) but this isn’t the time to show off the yang, but the yin in Zona’s makeup, and I think Wolfgang’s right. Just you wait.
tricksterson - Think so, eh?
Adamzero - Same reason why in Hercules and Xena (and a plethor of other pulp adventure) you NEVER, EVER, EVER want to cross the chasm on a rope bridge. It ALWAYS breaks, is cut, falls, or the rotting boards choose JUST THAT TIME to crack and toss you down into the abyss.
Raoul - Yes. She’s got legs. And she knows how to use them.
MaxBigFoot - Well, I do, too. But wait until you see Miss April.
Werby - Wasn’t a big fan of his, but yes, I remember seeing him dance around in like fashion. Zona doesn’t have a mike, though.
March 31st, 2010 at 2:14 pm
I have just changed my wallaper which was your last teaser to this beauty. It is that awesome!
March 31st, 2010 at 2:58 pm
There has been something that’s been bothering me for awhile about a few of the ‘outfits’ Particularly Zona’s and Ippola’s and I think i just figured it out…
Its the way the ‘tube’ tops conform to the body, Growing up in the 70’s I got to see a lot of tube tops, and I don’t ever remember any (especially on large busted girls) Where the top edge completely conformed to the curves or the women, there was always a gap as it stretched from the most prominent point on one breast to the other, allowing some memorable views and cleavage shots.
March 31st, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Darren, a good tailor knows all the tricks, cutting on the bias, darts, shaped cuts, and using things like starch (or even a leather underbacking) to shape a particular piece to the body.
March 31st, 2010 at 3:30 pm
…Then again, it’s also a fault of Poser that is very difficult to get around.
March 31st, 2010 at 4:44 pm
Darren41 - Jean is right. It’s the model. As I’ve said, I’m not a real modeler, so as producer (director, writer, lighting designer, DP and craft service) of the strip my “Wardrobe Dept” is DAZ3d, in this instance. The conforming model for the tube top is actually based directly off of the Victoria 3 mesh, with all the same morphs and adjustments. As a result it literally conforms to the same surface geometry as Zona herself, and so it’s less realistic than other, more detailed models such as the top that Tula is wearing. The simulated cloth, of course, actually moves based on gravity, wind, and vertex collision and so looks a lot more real. It’s also incredibly time-consuming and resource-intensive. (Translation: “Big Pain In The Asssssss…”) One of the things about the images Poser generates is that sometimes they can be nearly photorealistic, which raises expectations that I can’t always fulfill. Despite the effects I can often achieve, they’re still just art and illusion. And Zona’s top is not unlike the superhero tights that have been drawn since Siegel and Schuster started the whole gimmick, showing every detail of heroic musculature like a Greek nude statue, despite the fact that no spandex ever made has ever sucked to the skin like that.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:13 pm
wtf?huh?how? … whoa dude. pretty ladies make me paeleolithic. Ug Me like. No change, good look at.
@jean: I believe the correct term is: Yea! anywho I think JE has the right of it, something that makes you comfy will work for us :).
Back to the teaser: That pic holds so much awesome, it kinda makes my retinas hurt.
March 31st, 2010 at 6:14 pm
Btw, love the tan lines on the 4th one in.
March 31st, 2010 at 7:29 pm
@ JED, Don’t get me wrong, I love the comic and it’s ‘hawt’ as hell. I understand the issues involved, was just making a point.
And while the tops aren’t unlike the superhero tights, I didn’t quite expect it in this fantasy type comic. Like I said, I JUST realized exactly what it was that bothered me in some of the images. This is by far my favorite ‘web-comic’ simply because you are so artisticly capable. Each panel is a extremely well done, the story is exceptionally well written (something I know a little about myself, being a closet writer), so I can honestly say this little thing is the only complaint I’ve had in the nearly two years I’ve been following the comic.
@jean, I just didn’t expect that kind of tailoring in the ‘tech’ level portrayed in the comic. Now of course Magic could always be involved, but so far JED hasn’t shown that casual level of use.
March 31st, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Good stuff mate
April 1st, 2010 at 12:31 am
Looks nice, but what bothers me, is that there seems to be a bit of wind.
But the fire doesn’t care.
It sort of breaks the picture for me.
April 1st, 2010 at 2:12 am
Darren, you’d be surprised at some of the sophistication achieved in the 15th century, tailoring-wise…besides the Erogenians used to be uber-rulers of the land, I’m sure they had the snazzy wardrobe to go with their evil legion of doom ways. They may have retained some of the technical skill (even if their wardrobe may now be simplified)… XD
April 1st, 2010 at 3:29 am
As I’ve been silent for quite a while…
FINALLY… A dance number! ^^
April 1st, 2010 at 3:35 am
I’ve seen this before, Shirley McClain ” hey big spender, spend a little time with me.”
April 1st, 2010 at 7:20 am
I don’t use Poser or any 3d software but I was wondering about the tube top issue some were talking about. Would it be possible to create a second model that is based on Zona that has just one large breast? Or change the shape of the “nude version” Just so that when the daz3d software puts clothing on top it would conform more to the way regular clothing would fit? You would only need to use that particular file for shots where the person is wearing something that wouldn’t be able to naturally fill the space between the breasts. I don’t know much about how this software works maybe my solution is more work than I think…
BTW the april calendar is very cool…
April 1st, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Its just a step to the left…………..
April 1st, 2010 at 8:22 pm
*tackles Pat* NO! We’ve done that bit already!
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:12 am
@ adamzero well so what if we have it IS called “Timewarp” and it DOES suggest we do it again… >insert evil laugh here<
April 2nd, 2010 at 8:07 am
It’s just a JUMP to the left….And then a step to the right…
Sorry, have a friend that is in a cast for that show.
April 2nd, 2010 at 12:53 pm
Here I am…it’s Friday…
Aaa no Zona! My day is ruined!
Haha. Hope all is ok JED. I’ll check back later.
Moox
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Are we there yet?
:p
April 2nd, 2010 at 8:28 pm
Icecat - The real image is SO much bettah. Seriously. Wait a tic.
Darren41 - I HOPE it isn’t bad writing,at least. I try to tell what I think is a good story. And I improve the model choices and props as best I can as I go.
Warnie - Can always count on you. Thanks!
Curieus - This is a sketch. Thanks for pointing it out, and it’s easily fixed tonight.
Jean - Oooo! GREAT rationalization! I’ll USE that next time!
Sage - Yes, as I told you each and every time. And now, here it comes.
dolo-pzora - LOL! Yeah!
calisto - I’m working on it.
Pat - Anybody know the “Madison?”
AdamZero - No blasters! NO BLASTERS!
midnightwolf - Ah, yes. I remember the days at the NuArt! I think they still do it every Saturday. I should go.
Moox - Working on it.
hans - WORKING ON IT! *sigh* I knew I should have gone to Windows 7 as soon as I could., Vista has thrown me a frigging curve this week. Hopefully, it will be done tonight. I think it will.
April 2nd, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Not to burst the clothing bubble, but are you guys aware of what a good leatherworker can do in the way of a corset/bustier/bra with just leather, glue and sewing? I’ve seen similar work done in brocades or fabrics. What Zona is wearing really isn’t all that outlandish. It would be very stiff material though: it would not move with her at. all.
April 2nd, 2010 at 11:41 pm
Are you done yet? Are you done yet? Are you done yet? I know you are so what am I?
Doc
April 3rd, 2010 at 11:27 am
@JE yeah windows 7 is a pretty picture after vista, i flat refused vista, and waited for 7. so good.
April 6th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Is there a way to get a more “interesting” picture of this?
