I think Ipona's reaction may have a strong something to do with how uniquely girly Zona's rummaging around for her bells is. Zona's behavior also reminds me of several more modern warriors I've known that are so squared away and on task all the time... except when they're in a place and surrounded by people that are 'home' to them. They can allow themselves to relax; maybe not completely, but enough that they can sometimes not be recognized by those that don't normally see them in this light. And to the color symbolism discussion, you forgot the most important aspect of green. Green means hope.
