Short sweet and from the heart, all speeches should be like that.
February 10th, 2010 at 1:26 am
Nuts! No Song?! Awww!
February 10th, 2010 at 1:37 am
right on!
he didnt screw it up
February 10th, 2010 at 1:39 am
I didn’t call it but enjoyed it. A call to raise a cup is always in order.
February 10th, 2010 at 1:45 am
Yup, that’s my Mentl! Great page as always JED.
February 10th, 2010 at 1:50 am
Oh, inspiration just struck! “You light up my Life” ??? Ehh?
February 10th, 2010 at 2:07 am
Mentl carried that one out well.
I love the look on Zona’s face in panel two!
That’s just art, man.
February 10th, 2010 at 2:23 am
@Doc Alaska: “Nuts! No Song?! Awww!”
Like I’ve been saying, it’s probably too dangerous for him to be singing until he gets a better handle on his magickal powers (which are tied into his singing, remember!). The Erogenians may NOT take kindly to being magickally influenced, even if it’s just to party harder
Plus, any such attempt could have unintended consequences, as has happened before.
His making a toast was perfect, a great response to the hospitality he’s been shown. You can tell he’s scored major points with all of Zona’s family, and especially Zona herself. You KNOW she’s going to be spending the rest of the night showing her…appreciation. Yatta ain’t the only new guy whose gonna wake up exhausted, sore…and happy next morning.
February 10th, 2010 at 2:25 am
Speaking of Yatta-ta, I’ll bet no-one sees hide nor hair of either him or Sheahla for a day or so. Breaking in a virgin properly can take that long, if done right?
February 10th, 2010 at 3:09 am
Short, sweet and to the point. Well done, Mentl. And thank you for another touching insight in Mentl’s mind.
With all that 60s influence on Mentl from the music he loves, would it be completely wrong to guess that he is at least leaning towards some of the old hippie ideals and dreams of peace?
February 10th, 2010 at 4:41 am
MacNut, yup, it takes a good 20+ hours…very happy hours…with the right skillful teacher… *ahem* *fans self* Where was I…?
Oh, yes, this was well done! I like how he gets choked up in the next to last panel. And I really like the subtle changes in expressions on faces, particularly Ipola’s (she looks like she’s being vindicated in panel two) and Tula’s (she’s looking smug, since this is the Mentl she’s come to know, even though it’s been a short acquaintance by comparison.
But oddly enough, what makes this scene realistic–not just the *verklempt* moment Mentl is suffering, though that’s a part of it–are the kids ignoring the adults and just playing around, both in the background of panels 1 and 2, and the foreground of the first panel.
February 10th, 2010 at 4:53 am
Me-thinks Mentl has finally found “home.”
Cheers man!
February 10th, 2010 at 7:02 am
@Garou
Home is where the cha is.
February 10th, 2010 at 7:06 am
Awesome page JED as always ^_^, and Tula’s face in panel 2 XD its like, lucky Zona lol.
February 10th, 2010 at 7:09 am
JED HAI!
It is to your credit in the design of your world that I never before realized that the Erogenians use Lolspeak.
Moox
February 10th, 2010 at 7:44 am
whew! he made it through!
February 10th, 2010 at 7:44 am
I think the Moon tribe is starting to really like Mentl. It was a nice little speech and he celebrated their champion and their country. Way to go.
February 10th, 2010 at 8:17 am
I just noticed the little text between panels 3, 4 and 5. Laughed out loud.
Good speech, Mentl. I mean JED.
February 10th, 2010 at 8:49 am
Awww, Mentl!!! Good speech, JE! And I loved the little teaser text below the middle set of panels. That WILL be interesting!
Keep up the AWESOME!
February 10th, 2010 at 10:23 am
Thank you for pointing that out, Acipenser. Good job, Mentl.
February 10th, 2010 at 10:34 am
Hi all!
This is my first post and I wanted to say that this comic has become two of the highpoints of my week!
As for panel two. I dearly hope to recieve such a look from someone as Zona gave to Mentl. THAT is Love!
February 10th, 2010 at 10:44 am
Man I didn’t get 20 hours. I feel jipped.
February 10th, 2010 at 11:34 am
Hai indeed. Okay it’s been wayyy too long. Mentl needs to do his summoning thingy for his lute and segue into high energy rock n roller. Gotta get alla those Erogenians to burn off that alchohol. HEY! Issat a baldy Erogenian male in the last panel?! Heh I don’t feel so bad now.
February 10th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
One more beautiful page! Mentl managed to do fine with the speech after all. I just love how cool and open the moon tribe Erogenians seem to be.
lol, well-observed ladygreensleaves! I didn’t notice, being so absorbed by the beautiful art (at the top panels… Mentl’s pants at the last were slightly distracting :p)
As for who is going to survive… my bets are on Sheahla :p
Although, being both warriors, I believe they are going to get along very well!
February 10th, 2010 at 12:16 pm
@Acipenser - Great catch, indeed. Guess I have to go re-re-read the entire archive to look for those. oh, the horror … - Cestus
February 10th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
nice page man!
sweet and from the heart!
February 10th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
I liked the shot of Zona in the last panel. Nice glow from the low sun.
February 10th, 2010 at 5:47 pm
How long has Mentil had that torc on his wrist?
February 10th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
TB - I believe it should only be long enough to say what you got to say - and that’s all.
Doc Alaska - I’m saving that for later.
the captain - Nope - not this time!
Peregrin - Oh, yah, especially in this company.
Lebbrin - Thanks! And - no, not yet.
Dragonson - Thanks! This page took a LOT of time. There’s over thirty characters in the first and last panels I had to render.
The MacNut - Perhaps that is the reason - or perhaps he just wanted to raise a toast. There will be music later, definitely.
The Old Hack - He’s basically a gentle guy, and he loves the Love Gen music. Not sure I would call him a hippy, but he was definitely raised by a pair of them.
Jean - In my case it was about 36 hours. Ah, memories… And yeah, I need to have more older women, though, chasing after them dang kids.
TheLastGarou - So it would seem.
AdamZero - =D
zangoules - She just likes to see her sister all girly for a change.
Moox - Im in Ur Vallee drinkin Ur meth-uh-glin …
Sockpuppet - Indeed, and well done, seemingly.
Unlike Yatta-ta, he does have a clue on when to STFU.
Lora - Things are looking up for San Bernardino’s wayward son.
Acipenser - Yah, now I have to keep doing little crap like that. I always used to love the easter eggs you’d find in Homestar Runner, and this is a little like that.
ladygreensleeves - As soon as I can get the new incentive up, you’ll see.
Hugh - Mentl thanks you, and so do I.
Redbeard23 - Welcome to the sandbox! And sometimes you do get that look. Every now and again, in between horrible gaffs and selfish stupidity, I’ve actually said the right thing at the right time and gotten that from a lady myself.
Someguy - Pardon? Feelin silly and don’t get the reference…
Ga’Tor - Yes, Erogenian males will sometimes get pattern balndess. They are human, after all. You’ll also note that that same middle-aged gent is not hugely buff, either. He’s not a warrior, but a craftsman. Who do you think makes (and exports) all that terrific metal gear that they wear?
Nimue - Oh, I think that they’ll get on just fine. After all, he managed to keep up with Zona in a duel and that’s promising.
In Cestus We Trust - Only been doing it for a few pages, so no need to go looking for it too far back.
warnie - Thanks!
Steinar - Yes, the sun will be setting soon. And her big blonde wig just catches those rays.
kern - Page 321.

You might want to work on feminine faces a bit. I wanted to wait a bit to get perspective but its looking like a trannie convention out there.
February 10th, 2010 at 10:52 pm
God - Please read the FAQ.
http://www.soulgeek.com/comics/zona/HTMLpages/FAQ.html
February 13th, 2010 at 8:14 am
Hey! I read the faq…does that mean my boobs fall into the uncanny valley? I think I’ve had a bit too much beer for this sort of philosophical thinking, and must get a second opinion from the husband…Ahem…erm…
After some discussion with regards to what things I have in common with the main character, such as hard jawline and exceedingly large mammaries as regards to waist size(ie size 12 waist, size 16-18 bust etc, though I’ll never be that fit, I wish!), the husband posited that instead of worrying about the shape of comic characters, one might benefit better from getting a life/laid/a real woman.
*grin* I love my husband.

@JED, I know. I wasn’t checking the later messages for this day and I just got caught back up to this point and of course I read thru them all. this makes my 4th pass mow. I tell ya folks, CDO is a tough row sometimes. *grin*. See ya after V-Day folks. Slow ‘n’ sleepy mornings with my lady, yay! I’m old, I ain’t dead!
