I do that, and the mike doesn’t pick me up. (Not exactly high-quality mikes, here.) I have to ease into it, and even then…yeah. Ironically, I have sensitive hearing, and get sound-based migraines.

In fact, I literally don’t know how loud I can top out at, because I keep forgetting to stick in ear plugs and test it that way, lol. (Instead, when my ears ring and hurt, I quit trying.) I prefer not to be that loud, anyway, and try to match my volume to whatever situation I’m in. Alternately, I end up being quite enough (muahaha) that people ask me to speak up. *snicker* So when I go “magna voce” on ‘em…they do that “*blinkblink* omgwhattavoice!” expression thing that is just so funny to see…

Kaila if I had ever gotten that response from a sound tech I would feel ten feet tall. I’d be all “Damn right I don’t need a mic! Ya’ll better get some ear plugs too!” After all Lungs that can make make folks react like that are an accomplishment. ^_^ I used to play a game where I would take pots and pans from my kitchen and find the note to make them vibrate with, and then see how far away I could still produce the effect. But yeah I was going to suggest holding the mic a bit away from your maybe a foot and a half or so when you are going really loud or high and maybe lower than the level of your mouth Jean but Kaila’s suggestion will definitely work too.

DISCLAIMER Pots and pans were held in hand and vibration was felt not visible to naked eye.

Jean, to avoid microphone squeal or having the guy on the sound system whip his headphones off and yell ‘She DOESN’T NEED A MIC!’ (yes, personal experience, shuddup) just stand about a foot or two back from any microphone pickup. And hey, what are those lungs for if you don’t use em, eh?
