LOL yep, he’s got chronic foot-in-mouth disease, and the booze ain’t helping. He’s lucky nobody else was within earshot of that outburst, or at least, nobody else inclined to take offense. Love how the one person within earshot who could take offense, instead just calmly but firmly “stakes his claim”, so to speak.
Though it would not surprise me next page to see Yatta issue a drunken challenge to Mentl for Zona-it’d be just the kind of supremely DUMB thing a drunkard would do.

MacNut, nahhh…look at Yatta-ta’s face in that last panel. He’s just too damned happy in his drunken worshipful state to be riled up by Mentl’s blunt claim. And Mentl is too damned matter-of-fact. Mentl isn’t about to get into a fight, either.
Besides, it’d be too much for poor Yatta-ta’s ego to get his butt 100% magically whupped by a skiny pale not-even-a-Kivalian type like Mentl, after getting his butt 51% whupped by Zona.

Ha Ha Ha, now the true inner man comes out. I bet, considering their ‘almost’ lack of sexual inhabitations is someone heard him they would laugh. Some of the ladies might consider it a challenge and try to prove they are equal in that manner. This is going to be a fun next few strips.

I agree with everyone-this was one of the funniest things that I’ve ever read in my life. Mentl also knows that it is just the drink-which is why he isn’t kicking ass right now. Total hero worship going on right now, plus total “man-ness” as well. Makes one want to say “The hero-worship part of this program is over now. Moving on.”
ROTFLMAO!! To follow everyone. Definitely along with the total engrossness of what is going on behind them as well!

Oh, I am so glad I lowered my drink before reading the last few panels. I know from past experience not to be actively drinking while reading this strip.
I have Yatta-ta’s voice in my head and I know it’s from a Loony Toon, but I can’t remember the character. (It wasn’t one of the regulars.) I’m off to watch some of my DVD’s.
Anyway, JED, yet another GREAT page. Since everyone is on the band wagon here’s me ROTFLMAO!!!
Oh, and Yatta’s loon in Panel 5? Priceless…

@Deris-Yeah the Erogenians mos tliekly would be more amused than offended by Yatta’s tits comment, especially Zona herself. I can hear her now; “I have big tits? Really? I hadn’t noticed.”
One thing I wanna know-why hasn’t that redhead or some other village lass introduced herself to Yatta yet? You’d think the way they were checking him out before that one of them would’ve plopped herself in his lap by now. Or is that gonna be next page…?

Oh, btw, everybody: Yatta-ta CANNOT be a prince. Reread this scene: http://www.soulgeek.com/comics/zona/2006/02/22/page-27/ and you’ll see that he says he wants to make himself “a king by my own hand”…and in every case of people using that particular phrasing, it means to start a new dynasty. A second or third or whatever son (or child) of a king/queen would not be making himself “king by my own hand”…because there is ALREADY a chance he could inherit, if his older sibling(s) die. Only non-royals would put it this way.
So he COULD be nobleborn, but a prince? Nope. Not very likely. Not with what he said when he first introduced himself!

@ Ed Z. I’ve been thinking about your comment that Zona might get offended by Mentl saying “They’re all mine bucko.”
They (Mentl and Zona) are bronze banded after all, so ‘they’ (her huge tracts of land) would be exclusive to Mentl unless both he and Zona agreed to share a partner. Isn’t that the quote? (Too lazy to search the pages, but I think it went… “We can still have other lovers, but only if we’re together.” Something like that.
Ok, I did the searching anyway it was on page 107 when she said… “You could have sex with someone else, just not without me.”

I think that’s silver partners. The copper path is just that they have to be *present*, and copper path does not denoteany sort of exclusiveness, just that they show up together at dances and festivals, and they don’t sneak around behind each other’s backs. Silver path is considerably more exclusive (and many go this far to become parents). Golden path is “’til death do us part”…after a 6 month “parting” so they know for absolute sure they don’t want to be apart ever again. Right, JED? (psssst, you could always repost Tula’s explanation, ya know!)

New here, have now been thru archives end-to-end twice and absolutley love this story. JED, was there an earlier map of Erogenia that showed the hunting grounds of the Wolf Tribe? Have not been able to spot. Nitpickingly yours, ICWT. P.S. for future showdowns with Urrts and other Shuachim, Lennon/McCartney a little to light, definitely need some Who, Queen, Steppenwolf or Heather Alexander (but would Mike know her?). Rock on.

Ha! I sort of noticed before, but this contrast against Yatta’s fully clothed ridiculosity really sets Mentl’s dress code as being almost fully Erogenian Male. How interesting.

Icekat, no, if you look closely at the preceding panels, Yatta-ta’s shirt includes musketeer-style lace cuffs, large, folded back along the forearms. The “cut” you’re seeing is actually a light/shadow effect of the ambient light playing against the folds and layers of fabric, being the white lace cuffs on top of his shirtsleeves at that angle.

ICEKAT - Jean’s actually correct about the details of his shirt, but not about your observation. There *was* a teensy bit of what we in Poser call “poke-through” on Yatta-ta’s shirt. I fixed it and it’s not there anymore.
Kosetsu - The outfit Mentl is wearing was, if you recall, purloined from the junk that Ginsha had. In its turn it was the belongings of victims of the Urtts’ predations. In this case it previously belonged to a young Erogenian who would be pleased it went to someone who killed as many Urtts as Mentl has.

Elizabeth - Oh - but Yatta-ta thinks himself VERY stylish! I won’t tell him you said so, but he does have a tendency to change his outfits every time you see him. It’s likely that his next appearance after this will have him in yet another ensemble …
Uhl - Ahh, but it still doesn’t work perfectly. Nothing does when human beings are involved, even in Erogenia. People still get tempted and give in to it, cha still gets offended and balance needs to be restored by painful or arduous means. Still, I think that the idea, if followed, would work *better* than what we have in the west. Couldn’t be worse, anyway.
Sleepinin - They are still Copper Path. Mostly because it’s still so new, and also they’ve been far too busy to think about it much.

John, that’s the map I checked out before, there be nae wolfies showin’. I figure they must be upriver from the Moon Tribe, probably forming an equilateral triangle with the Fire Tribe. Or am I missing something? Because I seriously only count 8 tribes in Erogenia proper plus the Sun Tribe out the way hell and gone. They can’t be too far away because the Hawks, Lions and Snakes are all solitary types who don’t want neighbors, right? Only other likely spot would be downriver about halfway to the Lion tribe.
