F*** YEAH!!!
Yatta-ta has so earned that. And I am eagerly looking forward to that dinner.
January 12th, 2010 at 1:08 am
Yep, our boy Yatta-ta is bound to journey with the heroes for some time yet, I would wager. That is if he can survive the attentions he’s sure to attract during the feast. Thanks, JED for another great page.
January 12th, 2010 at 1:33 am
Go ahead Yatta, say no, go ahead say it…
January 12th, 2010 at 1:39 am
yay for yatta ta.
January 12th, 2010 at 2:15 am
OMG!
Ipola´s grin looks sooo goofy in the 1st panel.
You really sure it´s supposed to be like that? It´s much better in the other panels for some reason.
Good conclusion. Showing nicely Zonies sense of balance. Hopefully Yat won´t go off the deep end again. And maybe somebody will throw him a hint to take of that damn vest already.
January 12th, 2010 at 2:19 am
Heh. Just noticed (Ipola´s?) grinning Sabertooth Kitty.
So maybe it is supposed to look like that.
Hilarious.
January 12th, 2010 at 2:21 am
hans…I think said kitty is actually doing what we like to call “mugging the camera”, aka poking his/her head into the scene (and in doing so, breaking the fourth wall)…and if so, kudos to JED for his sense of humor. XD
January 12th, 2010 at 3:33 am
His heart says Thanks but his face says “I’m gonna pass out now” I mean seriously!
Awesome page JD. Good on yeh!
January 12th, 2010 at 4:38 am
As a gentleman the royal invitation gives him no choice.
The queen is clever !
January 12th, 2010 at 4:39 am
I really love Zonas hair. It looks fantastic!
January 12th, 2010 at 5:54 am
I guess I was wrong and the Erogenians aren’t as prejudice to Kivalians as they are to the Erogenians. Coolness all around!
Until the other foot drops and the bear tribe arrives and Yatta-ta tries to kill Count Tethik (who naturally has six fingers on one hand and murdered Yatta-ta’s father).
Crazy predictions aside excellent slice of story, can’t wait to see the next bit JED!

uh. Wow. apparently it’s early. That should have said:
To quote The Old Hack, F** YEA
January 12th, 2010 at 9:07 am
His sword skills would take much dedication and training, and Zona’s people appear to respect that fact. He is dedicated, to what ever he puts his mind to, it appears. Now lets see if some of the village women want to resopect his skills at the after party….(snicker)
January 12th, 2010 at 10:57 am
Awwww, give Yatta-Ta a hug. He looks like he could use one.
January 12th, 2010 at 11:53 am
I agree with Gremalkin, the queen has been clever, she has.
By shaping the invitation as a ROYAL invitation, she’s playing Yatta-Ta on his loyalty to authorities.
Very clever, that bit.
Offcourse, I still think Yatta-Ta is in for a wild ride.
And I would also still like to see Yatta-Ta travel with Zona & Co.
I noticed some people talking about what class he would be, I’m guessing swashbuckler with a noble streak to him, because it would fit his personality so well.
January 12th, 2010 at 12:31 pm
Jean, hans. Remember, the two cats attached to Zona & Tula were prepared to take orders from Vito, even though Zona can’t see him at all. Why wouldn’t they be able to break the 4th wall too? After all, they’re cats!
January 12th, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Considering the trouble in Kivalia that they will shortly find out about from Tethik (one way or another), Yatta joining the party for a bit is certainly possible — it’s his home that the royal idiot is about to hand over to the Urtts for a snack after all. While I think Yatta will always be something of a drama queen, I’m really wondering how deep the loony really goes.
January 12th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
“I regret that I don’t have the authority to officially proclaim him the finest swordsman in Kivalia. Frankly, until I see better, that is how I’ll refer to him.”
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
We’ll see how the guards treat him now that they’ve seen how he handles a sword.
January 12th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
I’m just waiting for this set of panels with the guards, with downcast/disappointed faces, saying “So that means we can’t…kill him?”
Queen Ipola: “Of COURSE not! He’s our honored guest!”
Guards looking downright depressed now: “Yes, my queen.” And they shuffle away as Yatta-ta wipes his brow in relief, finally understanding the honor he’s been extended.
And boy has he been extended an honor. He actually has ZONA’S respect. Not just the rest of the tribe, but her especially. Hope Mentl doesn’t get a complex about this…
Yet another
January 12th, 2010 at 6:36 pm
In the words of Eddie Riggs: “HELL YEAH!”
Yatta-ta has definitley proved himself epic. ^_^ And do I detect some subtle interest coming from Ipola in his direction?
Kekekekekekekeke….
January 12th, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Classy, very classy. I hope to see more of Yatta in action (maybe against the Urtts).
January 13th, 2010 at 12:00 am
Okay time for everyone’s favorite game “rampant speculation”! Yatta is the best kivalian Swordsman the queen has seen since the previous kivalian king. Could Yatta-ta, of Ir Anis, be a by blow? If so and Maldik’s brother (the name escapes me) shows the lack of sense to get himself killed in his crusade at greymouth. then maybe Yatta will take the throne (You know he would be better than Maldik, fermented toe cheese would be a better king than him). Fulfilling his prophecy from the beginning of the story by making himself a king by his own hand and ruling Justly and Heroically. (With concubines, lots and lots of concubines)
Yeah, probably not.
January 13th, 2010 at 12:30 am
No concubines. Just a steady parade of Moon Tribe women visitors.
I hope they have a stretcher handy to carry Yatta-ta away from the after-party. And fluids. Lots of rehydrating fluids…
January 13th, 2010 at 12:43 am
@Someguy: I dunno, I’ve been thinking along the same lines myself about Yatta’s possible future, now that he’s shown that he’s not actually a total loony. Crusades are notoriously nasty business — odds of coming back alive are not good. That whole “God will be our sword and shield” thing sounds great, so everyone rushes off half-assed and largely unprepared to take care of the heathens and heretics — who happen to be on their home turf and well supplied - and are none too happy to see said crusaders and tend to disagree forcefully, with lots and lots of very sharp and pointy objects.

January 13th, 2010 at 5:05 am
Macnut, go vote and check out the incentive, s’all I’m sayin’. ;->
January 13th, 2010 at 5:07 am
Um, Someguy, I prefer my toe cheese rulers to be unfermented. Drunk kings are worse by far than sober curded metatarsal lactation kings.
January 13th, 2010 at 8:51 am
@Jean; “Macnut, go vote and check out the incentive, s’all I’m sayin’. ;->”
LOL!!!! Oh I’m SO glad I did! Thanks for the tip Jean, and a very SPECIAL thanks to JE for my morning laugh!!!
January 13th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
The Old Hack - It’s not just dinner. It’s feast. Could last all day, night and the next day, too. Heh.
Lebbrin - You’re welcome. And while he’s definitely part of the pantheon now, Yatta-ta’s future (and his past) will only be revealed a bit at a time … so you’ll have to see.
Calisto - Y’never know with that guy.
taltamir - Yat, indeed. =D
hans - It’s a slightly exaggerated wry smile. She’s amused. Acting through these puppets, I sometimesturn the dial a little too far, but I thought at the time it was just funny.
Jean - Glittereye is actually rubbing his head against Ipola’s thigh, hoping for a scritch. Something that I can imagine doing myself …
Adamzero - He’s not quite that dazed, though he is dazed. And thank you!
Gremalkin - Yes, well - she’s unused to being refused …
Anna - Thanks! Wait until you see her after the handmaidens get done prettying her up for First Dance.
Shyster - No, the Moon Tribe, as the gals said, is much more accepting. It’s less likely that Yatta-ta would have even been given a fair shake in the Fire Tribe or the Fox Tribe. As you saw, though, Bull Tribe like a good fighter, even from Kivalia.
Sockpuppet - I assumed you were speaking Olde Wankish …
Deris - Either party or not party. There is no “After Party!”:)
wysiwig - Pretty sure somebody will at least try.
Sheela - Yes, she’s got some game. And as far as I know, Yatta-ta is in a class by himself.
Addup2 - Point of pedantry: Jewel and Brightfang weren’t taking orders - they allowed themselves to be persuaded. Big diff. They only take orders from their family. But they are definitely cats. Very definitely. “Scratch my head, Mommy - see how cute I am?”
reddwarf - The loony may not be deep - but I’m thinking it’s pretty wide.
Moox - See the vote incentive.
The Macnut -
Sleepinin - If you do, it’s subtle, all right. Still -
GhostEraser - That would - or will be most interesting, though one wonders if the Urtts have ever heard of Bonetti’s defense?
Someguy - Or maybe so. I ain’t tellin’, yet!
Joe - Dunno. Boy’s got lots of stamina.
reddwarf - In the immortal words of Richard Coer de Leon: “MY EYE!!!!”
The Macnut - Yer welcome.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Hah .. love the Vote incentive, well done JED.
On a sidenote on the guards, they are quite loyal, aren’t they ?
Like, puppy-dog kind of loyal … meybe they have been sheltered a bit too long in the valley. Might be it would do them some good to go out and crack some Urtt heads.
Offcourse, so far, they have been portrayed somewhat one dimensionally, kinda like Yatta-Ta up until his fight with Zona, really. Might be they could have some depth to them too.
Btw .. how normal is it for an Erogenian to have animal companions like the sabetooth tigers ?
Like, would people such as the guards have one ?
The blacksmith ?
The peasant ? (do they even have peasants ? )
January 13th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
Sheela - check the “characters” page. (which,BTW, I need to update) and check out the hunting cats entry. You will see that they are pretty omnipresent in Erogenian society - at least as much so as dogs and cats are in ours. And Glittereye is an old, old friend to her Maj, nearly twenty years old. A remarkable old fellow, still very capable of servicing his particular harem, (which includes Jewel, BTW) he may be compared to Frasier, The Sensuous Lion. (Google it.) He’s definitely a lover, less a fighter. And he loves him his scritches, he does …
The guards are very dedicated to their service. Something that we sometimes have a hard time understanding in the west with our culturally ingrained myth of egalitarianism. They are high status warriors precisely because they are border guards (and vice-versa) so their nearly unquestioning devotion to Her Majesty’s will is part of their sacred oath.
And yeah, they will completely die under any circumstances before they violate that. As to their three-dimensionality, I have taken the first step of giving them names: Budabik and Lucosik.
Yes, they are Bud and Lou.
Nonetheless, I don’t currently have room to include their character development beyond that at the moment. They are below Mircai, whose mission I will show you all someday soon. Fun story.
January 13th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
*snicker* JE, I absolutely love that vote incentive. Go you.
(Sadly, I was away from my home computer when the image with Zona jumping above Yatta-ta’s slash was up. Could that go with the wallpapers at some point in the future so I can snatch it?)
January 13th, 2010 at 11:04 pm
Jed this is simply excellent work and epic storytelling. It was a pleasure to see the light dawn in Zona’s face after she did finally beat him. I am looking forward to seeing him travelling with Zona and Mentl and maybe little sis as well…she does need a travelling boyfriend as well….right…? I suspect Yata is in for a serious education barbarian style, which will probably include the women of the tribe checking out his “sword” play I would imagine.
January 14th, 2010 at 12:30 am
If Tula and Yatta-ta get together without him going through a MAJOR personality change, ie way less crazy idiot, I would have to vomit. I just can’t conceive Tula going for him, at all, and I’d like to think I have a pretty good imagination.
January 14th, 2010 at 3:23 am
HAH!
I think that would be HIlarious!
Zona would probably have a giggling fit watching “big” sis Tula getting exasperated and irked out of her fricken pigtails by Yats wooing of the “other” princess.
*Ebil grin*
January 14th, 2010 at 4:26 am
I dunno. I like the Tula/Vito pairing better.
>_>
January 14th, 2010 at 5:33 am
Tula/Vito…just my opinion/vote…
January 14th, 2010 at 5:39 am
@JE Draft :
ACK - I have been defeated by the characters page!!
And I see they have domesticated other animals as well.
We know they have horses and sabetooth’s … and Ipola’s been seen with a bird, but that could have been from someone from the outside. I also saw some Bison and a duck in there as well. But are there any non-earth animals as well ?
And Bud and Lou is good names for those two guards btw.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:12 am
Hey, nice page, and nice incentive. BTW, which one’s Bud and which one’s Lou?
January 14th, 2010 at 11:21 am
“Bud” and “Lou”…..
*sigh* What, no Bill or Ted? XD
And, on that note, we still don’t know precisely HOW Yatta managed to get -in- to the Valley of the Moon without permission…
January 14th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
@Sleepinin
Either he had some sort of magic, or is really stealthy, or just possibly has so much blind luck to wander in right past the patrols.
And now we see what happens at the feast…Or with Tethik. Or maybe a scene with the friend he hired… So many options, and I want to see them all. I hate my impatience.
January 14th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
The Old Hack - Possibly, once I get a circular tuit.
Professor 61771 - Well, thanks for the kind word! And yes, it is likely that Yatta-ta will get some education. How much and what kind, you shall see next week, I think.
Someguy, hans - Not to give too much away, but I think that pairing is unlikely. He’s just not smart enough for her.
The Old Hack, Jean - Vito’s main disadvantage in that dept is that he’s dead.
Sheela - Erogenians have the usual domestics, (or rather Erogenian varieties of them, I should say) though dogs (wolves) are prevalent only in the Wolf Tribe itself. The ravens are specific to Ipola, and though they also domesticate several species of noble birds like hawks and eagles, it is the Hawk Tribe that actually makes them a totem and has the most of them. I will have to do some research to see if there are odd or otherworldly beasts that they breed.
Acipencer - Budabik is Pony Tail Boy and Lucosik is Red Hair.
Sleepinin - No, we don’t. How about that?
Ghost - A combination of all three - or not. : D
And we’ll stay in The Moon Tribe for the next couple of beats.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
We’ve still got to have that little discussion between Mentl and the High Priestess and High Priest — I don’t want to peel off to something else before we get to see some of that action and find out a thing or two. The feast will be a great time for this.
January 14th, 2010 at 8:09 pm
JED, to quote Doctor Frank N. Furter, “A mental mind-ffff can be nice!” XD
…Who says fun has to be 100% physical?
~Lotm
January 15th, 2010 at 5:44 am
I just noticed that all Erogenians are wearing a torgue … does it hold some special significance, or is it just a “pretty sparkly thing” ?
January 15th, 2010 at 9:31 am
I love how Zona said “I still think your crazy” after saying she was wrong lol
January 15th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
So how thick is the line between an Erogenian feast and an orgy? Having been to a few pagan parties I’m guessing that there is one but it’s thin to the point of semi-transparency.
Oh and sorry for not being around lately but my computer was in the hospital.
January 15th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
reddwarf - Well, be sure that that scene is going to happen. It will not happen at the feast. You’ll have to wait a bit, but I’ve already written it, and it’s a corker. \:)
Jean - Heh. I think Tula’d make a great Janet. Oh, gods, now you’ve got my mind working: Zona as Rocky. Mentl as Frank, Yatta=Ta as Brad, Vito as Dr Scott …
Hehe.
Sheela - The torc is the sign of adulthood. All boys and girls receive their torc at the age of 17. They wear it as faithfully as you or I would wear a wedding ring. It’s not exactly sacred or magickal, just a social convention.
Thantoss - Well … he IS, a bit, eh?
tricksterso - A fair question. And we’ll explore that in the next few pages …
Glad you’re back online!
January 15th, 2010 at 11:35 pm
@tricksterson: “So how thick is the line between an Erogenian feast and an orgy?”
I’m sure we’ll find out over the next few pages, but my bet is it starts out as a feast, then as the hours go by, with the alcohol flowing and people getting their buzz on, they start making out, then clothes come off, and next thing you know, the orgy is on
It’ll be interesting to see how much Zona & Mentl get caught up the…proceedings. Also when and by whom Yatta-ta gets “jumped”-and I ain’t talking ambush, at least, not the kind of ambush where weapons come out
July 31st, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Well done sir, well done indeed.
