Poor Yatta. But that accolade at least he earned.

  2. John
    January 9th, 2010 at 1:50 am

    Awesome. He did very well.

  3. LorannaPyrel
    January 9th, 2010 at 2:23 am

I wonder if his worry comes from the loud, boisterous, exuberant yelling from all the norther barbarian peoples (who -had- been talking about killing him prior to this, recall) … or the fact that he’s being hailed by a crowd mostly consisting of busty females in various states of undress ^_^

    Poor man; he’s doomed, DOOOOMED!!!!

    Loranna

    January 9th, 2010 at 4:07 am

so… like… that isn’t a call for boiling me in soup, right?

  5. The MacNut
    January 9th, 2010 at 4:35 am

Guess Yatta isn’t as knowledgeable of Erogenian customs as he first appeared, otherwise he’d know he’s being accoladed. And yes I have noticed it’s mostly women up front “accolading” him too. If he can be talked into staying, he’s in for a busy evening. In fact, it could be MANY busy evenings, knowwhatahmean? ;)

He may be far too BUSY with the village ladyfolk to go questing with Zona and company. For me, I know if that busty redhead in black wanted MY company for awhile, I wouldn’t be going ANYWHERE until she got sick of me ;)

The best part of this page is how gracious a winner Zona is being. She is showing herself to be quite the class act.

    Heehee! *applauds JED*

*cheering whistle* Good form on all parts, Mentl’s even flashing a thumbs up. I kinda half expected one of the Cats to Roar a cheer….

Still, the boy needs to lighten up just a little bit more.

  8. Someguy
    January 9th, 2010 at 9:51 am

Yes Yatta-ta that’s good, they are giving you a cheer so you feel a bit better about getting beat by a girl. Now off you go, off you go, right out of the comic.

(yes I know it’s not going to happen like that but so help me I’m a snarky bastard)

  9. Ami
    January 9th, 2010 at 10:22 am

At least Zona is a gracious winner. I agree that Yatta needs to loosen up a bit; I imagine he could find someone in the audience who’s willing to give him a nice massage.

On a side note, is that Vito lurking between Mentl and Tula?

  10. Sleepinin
    January 9th, 2010 at 10:26 am

“Thas gud, rite?” “Thas gud, rite.”

Give it up for the biggest loudmouth swordsman and swashbuckler in all of Kilvalia and Erogenia, Yatta-Ta!

  11. Metroknight
    January 9th, 2010 at 10:28 am

Is the arm of the redhaired guy that is standing behind Mentl out of perspective? If you look at it, it appears to be behind a woman that is farther behind him. Other than that, it is another great page.

  12. firegoat
    January 9th, 2010 at 10:43 am

Poor Yatta! How does anyone this clueless survive in the wild? Yeah he’s a great swordsman but yeesh…

  13. Lictre
    January 9th, 2010 at 11:07 am

@firegoat And he’s showing he can keep his promises when things don’t go his way. Honorable, and good sportsmanlike.

  14. Jeremy
    January 9th, 2010 at 11:08 am

To all you professional athletes: This is an example of what is referred to as “good sportsmanship”. Please take note

This scene reminds me a bit of the idea of personal combat as the purest form of communication (and revealing the true self) as expressed by the handmaiden in kotor 2. It seems as though the erogenians have seen the honorable warrior beneath Yatta-Ta’s mask of foolishness. I’m sure that, regardless of such incredible skill, they would not be celebrating him like this had he shown anything but honor throughout the fight. As it is, it would be an offense against the Cha not to recognize him as a great warrior after that last fight (In my opinion anyway, I’m not sure of the official erogenian stance on this.)

To JED: I know you were trying to be subtle, but I’m afraid I did notice the repeated character models. You did a good job, but after The Macnut’s comment, his fair lady was a giveaway…

  15. Lictre
    January 9th, 2010 at 11:10 am

Though he is STILL an irrepressible HAM, trying to work an audience at any time.

Clearly has spent either too much time at the theater, or was educated by bards.

  16. Ga'Tor
    January 9th, 2010 at 12:37 pm

So, one has to wonder. I’m assuming that Yatta is the only one who has gone toe to toe with Zona for that length of time thus the Erogenian accolade. So how’s that gonna work with his ego and persona? I mean, Nona’s undefeated and, let’s admit it, a bit on the supernateral side. So coming off second best to a talent like that is no bad thing. I can imagine Yatta’s next bar tale as how he fought Zona for ‘x’ minutes (a time period which will no doubt grow in the telling) before a chance of fate allowed him t be disarmed. Then again he does seem to be a man of honor who would not embellish the story (others would though). I note a lot of ladies with their fists up in air and a smile on theirs faces of that ‘Yatta Ta HAI!!!” no way is he spending the night alone. :)

One word wonder strikes again: Masterful !

  18. TheLastGarou
    January 9th, 2010 at 5:43 pm

@Ami is right! That IS Vito in the background!
    Well spotted!

And on my own side note: JED! You sneaky bugger!

  19. Jim Farris
    January 9th, 2010 at 7:45 pm

Why, no, Yatta, it’s actually a bad thing to have everyone - including the queen - chant your name.

Good gravy, how does this man manage to tie his shoes in the morning?

Oh - wait - I went back and looked. No laces on his boots. :P

  20. Hanswa
    January 9th, 2010 at 8:06 pm

Just stumbled on this a week ago.. read it 3 times now.. can’t understand how I never heard of it before. Great stuff :)

  21. Lebbrin
    January 10th, 2010 at 12:25 am

Looks like Yatta-ta assumed what we all did. That being that if he lost he had to leave. Like the others here, I believe that he will be pleasantly surprised when the women in the crowd start showing their approval.

Thanks for yet another wonderful page JED.

Oh, and if you liked it and didn’t vote, shame on you!

  22. Peregrin
    January 10th, 2010 at 1:38 am

I think we should give Yatta-ta a break for not being too sure of the crowd at this point. After all, the man did just push himself nearly to exhaustion - he’s bound to be a little light-headed.

I so want to read his backstory!

  23. Hypertrophobic
    January 10th, 2010 at 2:36 am

Good thing that Yatta-ta’s chosen weapon is the sword and not the clue stick.

  24. Jean
    January 10th, 2010 at 3:08 am

Metroknight, not only does it look that way to me, too, there are also a couple of twins, maybe even a set of triplets, in this shot. (…Yesss, JED, we know you wanted to save time so you could feed your hungry, drooling fans before they got impatently out of hand. Think of it this way, since they appear to be women, your male {and otherwise inclined} readers cna drool over the thought of lady twins, while us ladies {and otherwise inclined} are still drooling over the Fire Clan Babes…)

  25. Jean
    January 10th, 2010 at 3:11 am

…No, it’s not Vito. The face isn’t round enough, and the hair is too round. It’s an older member of the tribe.

(Hypertrophobic, if it were, he’d be all “batta batta batta saaawing–and a MISS!” *whiff*, wouldn’t he?) XD

  26. Uhl
    January 10th, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Correct, that’s not Vito. That’s the currently nameless guard that introduced Queen Ipola upon Mentl’s arrival. It all has to do with the “Micheal’s beard” model.

  27. SamuraiDemonPuppy
    January 11th, 2010 at 12:47 am

Man, Yatta was milking his “exit” for all it was worth. Are there “drama kings” out there? *gag*

  28. Jean
    January 11th, 2010 at 7:09 am

Samurai, I don’t think Yatta-ta is quite *that* good. Let’s call him a Drama Prince, shall we?

    *snerk*

  29. Mish_Lady
    January 11th, 2010 at 10:05 am

I agree that he’s light headed and maybe wants to just go and sit in a corner and perhaps…just sigh? Although it would be interesting to see just how loose Yatta gets after the feast and being pounced upon by nearly every female in the village. He IS Kivalian, after all. Although, he might get a bit big headed again. Who knows. But I can’t imagine that the girls would let him get tooo big headed.

    Good job!

I’m tellin’ ya…he looks like a young Chevy Chase.

    January 11th, 2010 at 11:31 am

Um… your Red-headed leather chick, stage right? I don’t think the curtains match the drapes… while everybody was counting heads, I ‘m amazed nobody was looking further down?

  32. Abeo
    January 11th, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Dunno, seems to me that this new development means it’s less likely he gets to stay. She might of just been trying to balance the Cha, she got her war cry now he gets his. Hope I’m wrong, the guy could probably use a lay.

  33. JE Draft

Hi, guys! Sorry for not replying earlier, but I am STILL sick, though not nearly as down as before, (I only constantly sniff and snort and give a loud, drawn-out hee-haw cough every now and again) and the weekend was busy.

The Old Hack - He has, indeed, by their lights.

    John - Yup!

LorannaPyrel - You know, I realized I did that unconsciously. It’s not that there are more women in the Moon Tribe than men, just that there’s always more women on MY mind. Nonetheless, I have a rationalization for there being more gals on the left than on the right: That was the side of the fight where you got the best look at Yatta-ta’s ass.

taltamir - Nope. Not just yet. :)

The Macnut - I put that line in because it’s funny. But as Peregrin points out, he is pretty tired, and in all fairness he isn’t the brightest lamp in the chandelier.

    Jean - Than-kyew!

Adamzero - Hopefully he will learn to let his metaphorical hair down. There is no better place on the continent to do so, frankly.

Someguy - Nope. It is not gonna happen quite like that. ;)

Ami - No, it isn’t Vito. See, I don’t even have to answer these questions, sometimes! Y’all do it for me.

Sleepinin - Well, we can hope his mouth won’t get him into too much trouble from here on in, but I’m not taking bets …

Metroknight - Okay, yeah, I see that. One of the pitfalls of compositing while you’re on cold medicine. I fix when I get home.

firegoat - He’s protected by the Idiot’s Enchantment, also known as Plotomancy. How does Joxer survive? Only through Plotomancy, which calls for an otherwise completely incompetent recurring character to return time and again even though to all appearances he should have been killed off in the first five minutes of his first episode. (See also magic items: “Gabby’s Armor Of Comic Relief”)

    Lictre - Yeah, he’s got that. ;)

Jeremy - Well, not a flagrant offense to the cha, but very bad form, and Zona’s got a good heart and generally pretty classy. And yeah, perhaps a bit too much cloning. Now, though, you’ve challenged me and I guarantee it won’t happen again. (especially because I’ve learned a few techniques just from doing this page) Of course once I get more perfect, I’ll have to start putting things in on purpose for you folks to find. :)

Ga’Tor - One line: “My God, Rex - You really *are* a Good Guy …” :D

    Gremalkin - Many thanks!

TheLastGarou - Sorry - not sneaky in that way. It is not Vito, as Jean and Uhl correctly point out. Hey - I only have so many wigs that will automatically fit Michael 2! :)

Jim Farris - Yes, it is for guys like Yatta-ta that velcro was invented.

Hanswa - I don’t understand, either!! But I’m very glad you’re here. Keep coming back. Illness and acts of Goddess notwithstanding, we update twice a week!

Lebbrin - Thanks, of course. And as to any romance he may or may not see in the near future? Well, we’ll see.

    Hypertrophic - Heh. I like that. :)

SamuraiDemonPuppy - Are you kidding? The World’s A Stage and all the men and women merely supporting cast … =)

Mish_Lady - Erogenian girls are generally not shy about telling you what they like - and don’t like. So yea, I imagine it would be a very balancing experience to be given a frank assessment of your good and bad points. :)

Black Ethel - I tend to agree, though Yatta’s naturally a bit beefier and square-jawed. :)

mr_oof - That was not *quite* what you thought it was. It’s a Poser artifact in a rather amusing location that I didn’t catch because I was on drugs. Happens when you forget to turn off displacement on certain textures. One mouse-click added or missed and interesting things dhow up in the final render …

    Abeo - Hey - couldn’t we all? :)

  34. Lora
    January 13th, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Heh, nice page, JED. :) I like how Zona lead the Erogenians in hailing Yatta-ta after the fight. He has deserved it. Now we’ll see how well he does in social situations. ;)
