Mish_Lady : Naturally, I just meant that you are saying assumes DnD 3e when it could be 2e, or gurps, or WoD, or a brand new system he invented.
Naturally its the authors choice, but I didn't mean it as an attempt to shut you down, you can speculate freely, I am just wishing to contribute to your speculation

@Inquisitive Raven:
As for everyone speculating on what kind of magic user Mentl is, JED’s already explained it. He’s an Enchanter, someone who works magic by chanting, or singing.
If we are talking about 3e enchanters, thats not how they work. Enchanters in 3e cast spells that affect the mind. Singing or chanting is only rarely used... and any wizard who did not ban enchantment could be using those spells anyways.

Kamatu, when my first ever campaign that I participated in stopped, I was a 15th level halfling cleric paladin in plate armor. I had 17 AC and 95 HP. Plus I had a Draconic Cohort-it was still a baby, but still. I was bada$$! lol

If we are going D&D, I'd go with Duelist for Yatta, works out much better. They don't have to be killers for hire, it would work for them simply to just be light fighters who are extremely proficient in single combat with certain weapons. IMO, that would fit Yatta.

But speaking of paladins, I actually ran in a short AD&D (1st ed) game for a bit. Since we didn't want to start off as peons and the GM didn't want to grind us up, he simply handed us 2M exp and told us to build a character. Well, that turns into a new 13th level Paladin with 250K exp left over. So, over to Unearthed Arcana to do the Cavalier style build and while I'm there, I "invest" in a few levels of Ranger. I didn't get to keep them since the GM decided that just getting enough levels to get weapon specialization on top of Cavalier specialization was a bit much.....

@Jean: Me no speak 2nd or 3rd ed. The Cavalier was originally introduced way, waaaay back when 1st ed was the only one around in an issue of Dragon Magazine. Actually, the only 2nd ed book I own is the Player's Handbook, and shortly after that I discovered GURPS and never looked back.

Thank you, Inquisitive Raven. I had actually totally forgotten that JED had given Mentl his own classification. ^_^

I'm just happy the Strong Female Lead was “allowed” to defeat the Mystical Swordsman Out Of Nowhere. Too often female characters suddenly stop shining or get lobotomized when some vaguely competent male character passes by. Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine.

Zona hai! :)

Inquisitive Raven, well, if you wanted to go 2nd edition or 3rd.x prestige class...but I concur. Romantic Twit, subclass (whatever).

Well, if we look at Yatta-Ta as a possible member of our beloved group, he could fill in the position of a ranger instead of a thief. He can certainly fight and he seems to be able (to a certain extent) to sneak and move very fast in the wilderness (three times ahead of Zona).
Would be better fitting than the paladin.

Or he may end up as a trainer in the village, we need to see.

@Jean: Yatta-Ta a paladin? You're kidding, right? He's not a holy warrior. In fact, I'd call him a romantic twit. And the appropriate fighter subclass for a romantic twit is Cavalier.

As for everyone speculating on what kind of magic user Mentl is, JED's already explained it. He's an Enchanter, someone who works magic by chanting, or singing.

Taltamir-true, true. As there are different types of specialization and such for everything. I'm going off based on what I know. JED could very well tell me to stuff it and say Mentl is a new breed of such and such and to stop pestering everyone because it's his big sandbox to play in. Which it is.

As a GM and writer I can respect that it is JED's world. Things DO work here differently than say here on Earth. This could be a parallel universe to Earth where the powers such as Tula and the priestesses still hold sway over the world. (Not that they don't now, but you tend to hear more about the three main power religions in the news-and not all good news either).

And I do believe that sorcerers can use stuff like wands. Just the ability to go "FIREBALL!!!" without any prep would be...awesome-o.
