Yea…I thinks he might be screwed lol, another great page done good sir
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:30 am
Juuuust keep digging that hole deeper, Yatta…keep on diggin…
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:35 am
Panel 6: That has got to be the DORKIEST face I’ve ever seen. Yatta sure is confident, though. I wonder how much of it is delusional.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:36 am
sigh
The man IS an ass, isn’t he?
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:47 am
I had every confidence in Yatta-ta…all the way until panel 6. He looks like a Disney hero who’s just scored an enormous hit off a bong the size of a small tree. The goof-o-meter expression dial has been set to 11. Hell, I think you broke the thing.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:49 am
Is it me or do his teeth seem to have a greenish tint to them in the last panel? I have never seen a facial expression quite so … expressive.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:52 am
Yatta-ta recognised an Erogenian shamanic outfit? Also interesting. I suppose a Kivalian willing to make some effort could learn the Queen’s titles. But knowing how their shamen dress in a country where the main religion vigorously denounce them as primitives? 1) It would be much harder to find out, 2) it requires a mind willing and able to go against the mainstream of the point of view…
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:59 am
I’m with most of the people here. yatta is in for so much pain, he will not be able to see strait for a month.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 am
Nuuuu … the suspense keeps building! And after Thanksgiving Break too. Evil, evil JED … ^_^
Love how Zona and Yatta both have big grins as they take up their swords, and the looks on the faces of the two sword-bearers. The raised eyebrow that woman gives Zona speaks volumes; I wonder if she’s witnessed the Princess getting a bit of humble pie back in the day when she was still learning swordsmanship. Great work with facial expressions as always. …Though, that raised brow on Yatta is gonna give me nightmares; his face looks like two halves got stuck together almost.
Then again, with the hints dropped about Yatta, maybe it’s a metaphor for his silly facade and his true self hidden underneath. (Yes, I’m an English major; why do you ask?)
I also like the wooden swords; not only are they kinda Nordic in design, but their wooden construction hints at … other possible (and potentially amusing) injuries despite bruises and broken bones. Not that I’d wish any injuries on anyone, of course.
*looks for halo emote, finds none, runs before horns show*

December 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 am
Yeah, Yatta looks extra-goofy in the last panel, but it stills says nothing about his actual fighting abilities. Guess well have to wait ’till next page to see any real hint of that.
Loved Mentl’s good luck kiss to Zona in panel 3. Wonder what the old lady (the rather well-endowed old lady-Yikes!) was thinking about that? Hard to tell from her expression-methinks the rest of the tribe doesn’t quite know what to make of Mentl yet.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:15 am
Yet another awesome page. I love how Mentl is being very rational about the whole thing, when he has just as much reason to not like this guy as Zona. After all, during each of his little challenges to Zona, he directly snubbed Mentl, and has generally been a pain in the ass. Plus, you know, the whole, “I’mma try an’ steal your girlfriend now, kplzthx” thing.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:24 am
I am very exited about this. Can’t wait to se if he as good as he think he is. Some how i suspect this buildup isn’t yest for show. Im expecting a great fight. Don’t think he would survive out there with his attetude without SOME skill to keep him alive !
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:48 am
I predict some early scores for Yatta. Zona is simply too overconfident because she considers him a buffoon. OTOH, Yatta’s physique didn’t compare unfavorably to his guards’, so there has to be something there.
If she wasn’t Zona, then I think that would be enough. After all, if you look at this in RPG terms, Zona is a well rounded warrior with many skills and lots of fighting styles. Yatta, if he has anything, has specialized in sword combat to the exclusion of all else. Now Zona is forced into a position where she must deal with Yatta’s claimed expertise with combat.
December 2nd, 2009 at 3:11 am
…I like the high priest. <3
Textures, expressions, goofiness, overconfidence, casualness, even the location by the henge stones…
Best, though, is the high priest talking shop. At least, imho.
December 2nd, 2009 at 3:12 am
Interesting that the high priest and high priestess are the swordbearers here - they’ll probably be the judges and enforcers of fairness as well, if required. The high priest seems pretty cool - not at all full of himself. I think the priest and the priestess both have the same idea — someone’s going to learn something today, and it’ll probably be painful. Though I do hope Yatta can snap out of the goofy before they start, geez! I’m starting to wonder if he’s a bit possessed. Yatta is really pretty polite and reasonable when he’s not trying to live large - then suddenly it’s fruitloops for days.
December 2nd, 2009 at 5:32 am
Hi all. Have been hooked on Zona for some time,(including the comments). None better, JED!
I have to say it; the first thing that popped into mind when seeing Yatta in the last panel was Alfred E. Newman and his trademark “What, Me Worry?”. Whether that is the intent or not, it’s stuck in my head and won’t go away. At least I’ll get to chuckle over that for as long as it lasts.
December 2nd, 2009 at 5:36 am
Heh. This is gonna be good….
Sir- not to be a nitpicker, but since I’ve seen others mention here, I thought I’d give my feedback- the high priest’s nostrils appear to be light-emitting…
December 2nd, 2009 at 6:31 am
Oh god Origami Guy now I can’t stop giggling! Oh god the LIGHT…from the NOSTRILS!
Sorry. IN any case, this is a fantastic page JED, and that last panel had me giggling madly anyway. WHAT a face.
This comic is so amazing. I check it way too many times per day.
December 2nd, 2009 at 6:58 am
Lol, I didn’t notice the lights in the nostrils the first time. You made me crack up.
Love the shaman/priest and his explaining some things to Yatta-ta.
December 2nd, 2009 at 7:12 am
Random thought. Whatever language it is they’re speaking - what happens when Mentil speaks a word that Zona would have no concept of, like ‘Bus’?
December 2nd, 2009 at 7:40 am
*headdesk* Oh, Yatta. You will never learn, will you? Methinks someone is about to get SCHOOLED. Royally so (oh hey! A pun! My apologies. ^_^).
Keep up the good work! Eagerly awaiting the next page!!!
December 2nd, 2009 at 8:39 am
Call me crazy, but i do beleive Mentl has blond streaks… And hes wearing a distinctly Erogenian bracelet. and his abs are getting thicker. Go Mentl!
ON to yatta… Ok… It looks like he’s inserting a second ‘hidden’ weapon.. someplace REALLY unpleasent.
Props on the ingenuity.
December 2nd, 2009 at 8:46 am
The outcome can only go three ways: 1: Yatta gets schooled in .2 seconds flat.
2: Yatta does some schooling and surprises everyone.
3: They’re evenly matched in straight sword combat, and he earns everyone’s respect.
December 2nd, 2009 at 8:55 am
Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear to Tread, I think that saying fits here. Bets on how far he flys from the finishing blow. I’m betting 8 feet, considering she is planing on holding back…
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:11 am
I just realized something…
Yatta looks like a young Chevy Chase.
Yeah, he’s fool-hardy, but it can’t be that easy…I think something is up.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:19 am
I just hope Yatta-ta’s not one of those ‘FAKE OUT’ hidden bad guys…. that would suck.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:25 am
old hack there is another explanation for his assumption that the high priest is a shaman. Most “civilized” cultures see any “uncivilized” cultures religious leaders as shaman. it is a assumption that is made regularly. personally I think yatta only knows the queens titles because he is a messenger to the queen. otherwise he is just another person assuming that they are a tribe of barbarians.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:26 am
Those glowing nostrils? That’s probably because of the many years of HOLY MAGIC TRAINING that this guy has had. Mentl’s eyes glow from time to time, and the last time they did, his opponent paid no heed. Glowing body parts must not be very unusual amongst the Erogenians. Either that, or WE (as the audience) can see it, while other characters can not.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:27 am
Sorry for the double post, but yes, I DID notice Yatta’s green teeth. Must be something he ate recently.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:42 am
My money is that the two will start fighting and won’t stop until it’s WAY past midnight and both are covered in bruises.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:47 am
Of course the High Priest’s nostrils glow — you should see what happens when he bends over. XD BTW, where/when did Mentl originally get the fancy bracers he’s wearing? I first notice them after he escapes the half-Urtt girl, but he may have had them earlier and we didn’t see with his long sleeves.
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:07 am
Usually I read the comments leisurely and with pleasure enjoying the things you fine folks have to say almost as much as the comic itself. But not today. Today I just had to scroll down to the bottom to immediately state how much I like today’s page. The last panel is especially good. I just wish I truly had the words to express to you all how much the last panel filled me with glee. Unfortunately I a not a man of letters so I know of no better way to express it than this.
THE LAST PANEL IS TEH AWESOME! OMG ROFLMAO! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Your understanding of my lack of erudition is most appreciated.
Seriously JE great page for so many, many, reasons. Especially the last panel.
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 am
After Yatta’s last line, all I’m hoping is, please god, let Zona spank him!
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:53 am
I agree that the high priest and priestess probably have seen Zona get a lesson in underestimating her opponent before. We know that Zona is the official champion of the Moon Tribe, so they’ve probably seen this a lot of times before. Also, the priestess probably is also the one who the women go to for spiritual advice, possibly womanly advice-and Zona has probably done the same. So the priestess probably knows a little bit more than she can say professionally to the whole tribe.
I LOVE Yatta’s face in the last panel. SO totally fits with his character. Made me laugh out of humor and pity at the same time. You have to admire Yatta’s determination, though. He’s stuck it through it all, even though he knew that he might get a death sentence automatically and with no questions asked when he set one foot into that valley.
December 2nd, 2009 at 12:23 pm
I love that both are equally confident. I wonder who is OVERconfident. Perhaps both of them. I also love the extra heaping of obliviousness on Yatta’s part. Since both seem to trying not to hurt the other, I would expect a slow start to the fencing match, but we will see.
Glowing nostrils were also funny. I am sure that was trick of Poser lighting, but it must be helpful for finding that bit of food between your teeth.
December 2nd, 2009 at 12:42 pm
You realize of course that the light shining from the High Priest’s nostrils is a vital clue and an important plot point showing significance unto how the magic of this world works.
I’m just making that up. It’s probably just the angle of the light or something silly within the 3d rendering.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I note that all their teeth have A green tinge to them, somer more some less.
Maybe its the food they eat or the drink,,, hummm intersting!
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:14 pm
I love this guy! I think they should invite him to the feast as soon as Zona’s done whoopin’ his ass.
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:16 pm
glowing nostrils are the shamanic magic dust
December 2nd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
The priest/shaman speaks much like Mentl… where’s he from? Hey, don’t assume that Mentl is first man from Earth to visit Erogenia!
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
*facepalm* man.. this can only end in disaster… and hilarity
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:39 pm
For whatever reason, if Yatta is as good as he says, Zona may just get schooled. So far in every fight, she’s strove to end it quickly. If she does it here, and he’s quite good, all she’ll do is wear herself out on his defense before he makes his move. While not an ideal fighting strategy, if his defense is good enough, she may have just walked herself into a losing situation.
I still vote for Yatta surprising everyone and winning. May take a couple pages, but I say he does.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Sockpuppet, you forgot the Aftermath, which will occur regardless of 1, 2, or 3.
4. He continues to annoy the snot out of everyone.
December 2nd, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Regarding the green teeth, guys? JED is trying to “shadow” the inside of the mouth, and if you ignore the tint, he did it beautifully. I think with a slightly different shade of shadow, it will work perfectly.
December 2nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
A fast fight, in my opinion, would favor Zona. We haven’t seen Yatta tossing around LARGE sections of tree-trunk (page 151), or tossing kids 20 feet into the air one-handed, like we have with Zona. Yatta might be in prime shape, but Zona’s strength is well outside the bounds normally achievable by humans, and if you’ll look at pages 58-59, you’ll see that her speed is frightening, catching, single-handed, a CROSSBOW BOLT fired at her from less than about 30 feet away.
Unless Yatta is freakishly fast, faster than a striking rattlesnake all the time, I don’t think he’s got a chance.
I was being cautious and charitable, but with a direct example of Zona’s speed, and examples of her strength, I don’t think Yatta has a chance any more, if the wooden blades can withstand the strength she can bring to bear.
December 2nd, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Yatta-ta will performs well enough, so he’ll be allowed to take part to the feast and he might even join Zona’s group of adventurers
December 2nd, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Glowing nostrils, are they? Luminous beings, we are!
As for Mentl’s abs, well they have been travelling a while, doing more physical work than he may have encountered back in his homeworld. I’m quite out-of-shape, but I’ve noticed that with a few days walking to work even I have abs.
December 2nd, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Y’know - we may not have seen it, but I’m willing to bet that Zona has given Mentil at least some basic weapons training. Can’t be relaying on the songspelling all the time - one could blow to the throat and he’d be in serious trouble in the midst of a fight.
December 2nd, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Ya know…I was feeling a “little” sympathetic for the guy…now…like the queen says I hope Zona Really Really beats the tar outta him…that look at the end is either a REALLY good act or just one of those expressions that BEGS to be slapped
December 2nd, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Hi, kids!
Coming to you from the sickk bed. Gonna try to go to work tomorrow so I don’t use up all my PTO being sick, especially since this looks like it’s gonna take a long time to get better.
Friday may be on Friday again, since I’m having some trouble concentrating.
Well, well, well, well, well, well isn’t this nice, as Inspector Look Out There’s A Man Behind You once said.
Just to comment on some of the comments, It seems you are pretty evenly divided between shooting him now and waiting until we get home.
hehehehehe …
Precisely as I intended.
Nonetheless, next update you *will* see them finally crossing Viking-style bokan and commencing to begin to start.
A couple of things: Serrin the high priest and Karna the high priestess are not necessary to preside at a ritual combat this trivial. A death match, yes, but this is just a little nonlethal disagreement. In such things as this any priest or wise woman, shaman or other holy one would have done just fine, let alone two of them. But they were both right there and thought it would be amusing. Serrin himself especially wanted to get a word or two with the outlandish outlander to see how for real he was. Karna wanted to double-check Mentl’s aura. What her thoughts were she has so far not revealed. As to asjudicating, they will both defer to Ipola on this one since it concerns her champion and is not of any great consequence. In most important matters she relies on both of them because they usually bring very different perspectives to any problem. You’ll see one or two of those discussions down the road.
Karna and Serrin have, indeed, watched Zona’s whole generation grow up and have witnessed both the princesses get comeuppances more than once. They also have a very good idea of her strengths and weaknesses and are not looking to be surprised - with the exception that the wise always expect the unexpected, and they are both pretty wise.
Serrin is not a scholar in the sense of being bookish. He has always learned more from the land and the sky and the water and from the love of the people of all lands and species. In Wiccan terms, he is a Pan spirit, a lover of pleasure and celebration, of the produce of the land. He’s quick with a joke and never takes himself or anyone else too seriously. This has a tendency to drive Karna to distraction at times. He is not from Earth. He is just kind of jocular.
Those who’ve read “The King Is Dead” (what there is of it) will recognize Karna as Ipola’s oldest friend, mentor and advisor. She is the most learned person in the Nine Tribes, and a true badass at Magicks and enchantments of all kinds.
As to Serrin’s nose, well of course it’s a lighting artifact and nothing more. Stupid Poser. But the first thing I thought was:
“It’s your nose, you know. Fans are funny that way, they take a dislike to things. They’ll pick on a nose.”
“Aw, you pick on your own. ”
The green shade on the teeth and all other white things in the picture is merely the lighting reflection from the grass. I suppose I could tone that down …
Mentl’s “blond” streaks are highlights. I suppose I could tone that down …
Off to another coughing fit. Love to all …
Hack. Caff. Argghh…
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Personally, I think that Yatta-ta is going to surprise everybody. Don’t think he’ll be better than Zona, but yeah, he’s gonna shock some people.
And, I don’t know if anybody mentioned it, but, in the first panel, is it, umm, rather cold where the priestess is standing?
December 3rd, 2009 at 12:44 am
I am at least half right with this guess, but I’m starting to think Yatta-ta may be a sort of idiot savant when it comes to combat.
December 3rd, 2009 at 1:50 am
JED, take comfort in that we have to *SEARCH* for things to nitpick. Or nosepick, in this case. I myself didn’t even notice the Poser noser glow (couldn’t resist the rhyme)…but the moment it was pointed out, I did recall the previous Poser teeth glow discussion, and just figured that was the problem.
I can’t wait to hear Karna’s assessment of Mentl’s capacities. (Yes, pun intended.) I’m also thinking that Yatta-ta has bought into his own delusion of grandeur, hence that final expression.
You take care of yourself, rest while you can, and update when you get to it. Your health *pauses to ELBOW her fellow readers* IS more important than a timely update.
(After alll, if he wears himself down to nothing trying to do too much while he’s sick, and winds up even more ill, then we’d have even worse delays, right? *elbowelbowpoke* Now be nice to him!)
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:48 am
Yattas face has to be made of rubber. It´s amazing to see how he changes - lol
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:13 am
Oh god! just realized something… if you put a goatee on yatta on that last panel there he’d look just like the guy who played the sheriff in Mel Brooks’ robin hood
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:40 am
Cary Elwes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cary_Elwes
Got to say I’m not seeing it, but it’s been forever since I saw that movie, so maybe I’m forgetting a scene or something. Anyways, I cant wait for the fighting aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 am
@Jean: Emphatically seconded. JED, take good care of yourself, your health is paramount. I will happily wait a little longer for updates.
Also seconded on the nitpicking part of Jean’s post. Or possibly nosepicking part. Small errors like that are nothing.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:29 am
No, Cary Elwes was Robin. The Sheriff of Rottingham was played by Roger Rees, most recently seen in Warehouse 13 as a bad guy.
Congratulations on acheiving the goofiest face I’ve ever seen in either art or RL.
I think Yatta is probably very good in a formal, rules oriented fencing type style but doesn’t have much practical experience.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:29 am
Aha, see guys. That was a nice little *text* update by JED. That would work well for some of the background type stuff, like Tethik’s conversation with the Bear. It would also be less stress on JED…
We could get some consolidated history and backstory on a lot of characters.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:33 am
Tricksterson, in this type of world a “fencing” style would be the very formalized and stilted manner used today as a remnant of real sword training. I think Yatta will hold his own or perhaps be even superior to Zona. At least until she reaches out and trips or punches him during the bout.
Heck, I thought the nose glow was some kind of stud, which shows how much attention I was paying to him.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:47 am
I’m a little disappointed at Ipola. There are some rather incongruous facts regarding Yatta that make him more dangerous than he seems. 1 He knows a lot about Erogenian society yet holds on to a rather silly idea about Zona’s challenge. 2 He has afforded multiple outfits of high grade combat gear and been able to procure them and get ahead of Zona three times on short notice. 3 He is unable to explain his need to follow the quest beyond that he must. 4 He was unable to let go of his delusion about the challenge untill he was offered a solid attempt to face Zona. 5 He was able to infiltrate the heart of Erogenian lands in a shiny new suit even though super sneaky Tethik was caught out immediately on the borders of Bull territory…. I’m betting on mind control w/ a powerful backer.
December 3rd, 2009 at 11:32 am
JED…get well soon.
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Ow, Jean, don’t poke so hard! I’m a patient person, I can wait for JED to get well before a new update.
And yes, JED, we only nitpick(and look hard for things to nitpick) because we love the comic and want to help you make it even better.
Btw. in the first panel Mentl got a little light in his mouth.
December 4th, 2009 at 12:13 am
How far do you think he’ll fly from the force of Zona’s attacks? Do you think its like log throwing? I hope they plant a flag where he lands and make Erogenian hurling a sport in the years to come….*crickets* I’m allowed to spout nonsense!
December 4th, 2009 at 12:16 am
you gotta love the star wars reference (For luck!)
December 4th, 2009 at 2:46 am
All the people who are making such a big deal of Yatta-ta getting ahead of Zona three times aren’t really thinking things through. The first time he found her might have been luck, or following the carnage as Tula did.
The second time, well, if he encountered her on the road to Normos, it doesn’t take much to realize that she’ll probably return to Erogenia by the same road, and find a suitable place to lurk.
The third time, I didn’t get the impression that she and Mentl were covering their tracks, and he got the chance to leapfrog them while they were engaged in some music induced shenanigans. Although, you’d think he’d've at least heard enough to disabuse him of the “virgin princess” notion. Since right then, the Urrts were on a mission to capture or kill Zona, he probably didn’t even show up on their radar.
December 4th, 2009 at 6:04 am
Until I read the comment about the grass reflection I was thinking - That’s not Yatta-ta its an Urt in disguise. What better ploy
December 4th, 2009 at 11:30 am
@Hevaess
Why in hell would Erogenians turn lobbing each other about into a sport?
It wouldn’t even happen with Kivalians, because of the Erogenian societal focus on balancing out their historical cha.
On the other hand, to put it in the abstract, they could wind up developing a 175 pound hammer-throw as a sport.
December 4th, 2009 at 11:59 am
@Lictre: Judging from the time Zona dumped the entire wooden trunk Yatta-ta was standing on, I’d say Erogenians would probably go for caber tossing in a big way. ^^
December 4th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Ok so initially I suspected the the guy might get in a quick hit on Zona, and win by a technicality. Then I saw his face in the last pane and knew that there is no hope for him winning. No one making that cocky a face should be allowed to win.
December 4th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Ok looking at this from a DnD perspective as a DM for 25+ years I have some predictions to make but I do not want to crowd the writer. JED you have created an amazing story here I share with my 17yr old son, my 16yr old daughter, their friends, my girlfriends and anybody else that will hold still for long enough. I hope my comments do not change your storyline one way or the other.
Basically Yatta is an accomplished Duelist with the blade and he has maneuvered Zona right where he wants her, a formal challenge, with witnesses and something at least resembling formal rules. Zona still has no idea of his training, physical strength and weaknesses, or anything else. Yatta has an opportunity to spar with her, in a relatively safe environment, and show off his “superior” techniques and training. He will probably be capable of some fairly surprising things with a sword and then say one thing too many, perhaps about Mentl not being worthy or her, then Zona will skip the formalities, shatter his blade and hit him hard enough they will need all the Queens Men and Women to put him back together again. Zona does have a temper and he is ALMOST on her last nerve…which is not a good place for ANYBODY, ANYWHERE to be, much less on her home turf, surrounded by her own people.
I look forward to seeing this all work out and bow to the Queen’s wisdom in this. I think she is right and Yatta could actually become a valuable ally some day. At the very least his steadfastness says he would make a valuable friend, and besides all he really wants is to be a hero, and hey who doesn’t? Introduce him to a real problem, like the war with the Urrtts and he’ll do a man’s job.and find his own destiny…I hope.

Hey JE, another killer page. Hope ya get to feeling better, don’t you love being wore out with the random bug making you feel like crap & still not able to sleep for coughing your ass off? lol. Try a couple shots of GOOD tequila to help ya sleep, rest will get ya better faster than anything.

Hey guys, I went back in the archives to reread the comic, seems very small & hard to read, not to mention seems to be missing pages. Am I doing something wrong or is that just the way it is?

Click on it when its ’small’ and the image will GREATLY increase in siz,e or check your browser’s magnification levels. (it should sayy 100% in the bottom right hand corner) hope that helps. =)

@Haranek: those are just thumbnails to help you find a place to start in the real archive - click on one of the smaller images you want to begin with to get the full size image and then use the usual Next> navigation to see all the pages full size.

There has been a practical demonstration of Yatta’s strength, dexterity and practicality, or the degree of subtlety and deceptiveness he possesses, in his second meeting with Zona and Mentl, when he was wearing full jousting armor (that he wasn’t used to moving around in yet), when DISMOUNTED. Zona stepped close and just gently pushed him onto his back, then they walked by as he was trying to get off his back so he could stand up.
As they were walking away, Mentl was suggesting he rock side to side to build up momentum.
If he was pulling that as an act to build up false confidence in Zona, he’s SUBTLE. But I don’t exactly buy that as a real working premise.

I have no idea why, but for some reason I actually want to see Yatta-Ta win.
Not that I don’t like Zona, but it’d be a pretty epic feel to all of the sudden find out that Yatta-Ta is actually pretty competent with a weapon after all this time of him being such a fool.
Always be wary of the crazy ones!

…Congratulations, JED. No matter which way this contest goes, whether Zona wins or Yatta-ta…you have stirred great controversy, discussion, feelings, opinions, and brouha amongst your readers. You *will* disappoint some of us, and you *will* vindicate many more. You may (or may not) surprise us…and you may or may not summon forth the spectre of a lynch-mob, internet style.
But, either way, whatever happens, you have INTERESTED us in the outcome, and sent our own imaginations spinning off in as many different directions as the subatomic particles in a physics accelerator.
*applauds her fellow author* Excellent work!
…Now, throw the switch, Igor, and let us bring this monstrosity to life! AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!

“Complement”
Compliment is to say nice things about. Complement is to be symbiotic with.

Bit late since I am Archive-diving again, but for those afflicted with coughing, put Vicks Vapo-rub (or eucalyptus oil, but Vicks is easier to find) on the soles of the feet (put socks on more to protect bedding than anything). I haven’t found anyone who knows WHY it works - maybe some of our extraordinarily learned Fellafanz can tell us - but the oil or Vicks on the feet somehow short-circuits the coughing reflex. Works for babies and nonagenarians and everybody in between. Really. No shyt. Try it, it’s cheap.
