Oh, it’s ON.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:10 am
For the love of…What is with these “Bull Tribe” men and their INCREDIBLY MASSIVE NIPPLES.
Gods, this fight is going to be over in 2 moves isn’t it. with a backup plan of nipple-pinch-of-death..
August 28th, 2009 at 1:14 am
I see the Fire tribe has no monopoly on overly muscled twits.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:25 am
As awesome as Zona and Tula are (I LOVE big saber tooth cats), and as cool as Mentl is, I have to admit I’m wishing you could do a spin off series with The Adventures Of Yanora And Tethik. I bet, if those two really wanted to, they could take over the whole world through their savvy, determination, and big brass ones.
Yanora’s big brass ones being gold and soft as silk, of course, not that that changes the power of her big brass ones.
…In an attempt to not seem like so much of a perv, I’m really digging the Bull Tribe guy with the axe on his back. I’m not sure why, but I get a major Al from Home Improvement vibe from him - probably because Tethik’s opponent seems on the same mental level as Tim Allen ^_~
Loving the comic,
Loranna

G-
Goddammit, TTD! I can’t unsee the massive nipples!
August 28th, 2009 at 1:39 am
alright, now let’s examing Tethik and Princey’s use of ‘boy’ in each scenario.
-Both are men of rank, and royal blood.
Both men are older than the men they refer to as ‘boy’ but Tethik is probably older than the Bull Captain by a greater degree than Progy is to Mentl.
Progy addressed Mentl like a servant, throwing his rank around.
Tethik is answering a dispute to a challenge, AND at the same time ensuring noone gets seriously bloodied by removing swords from the equation.
I think it’s clear that Tethik’s got more skills.
Cause:
1) Wbile not immediately, he did give his name and title.
2) He stood his ground about being bound.
3) He’s kept up the challenge AND gotten swords out of the way.
4) He’s badass.

All the men are bare chested and Archer girl… sorry, Archer Woman, since Erogenians seem touchy about that, has to wear a breastband? Not fair!
I think the silver might indicate noble, rather than royal blood. Tula’s is silver yes but the character page said she’s not in the official line of succession.
And again I think people are being unfair to the Bull boss. Yeah he’s underestimating Tethik but most people looking at that final panel where there face to face would pretty much assume the “old man” was toast. And yes, nice move on Tethiks part to push the fight down to the level of fisticuffs.
August 28th, 2009 at 2:29 am
*sigh* And once again, the man with the aforementioned big brass ones is not only gay, but fictional as well.
Curses.
August 28th, 2009 at 2:35 am
I agree with you about the unfairness of it, but Archer Woman showing her bare chest would earn this comic an X-rating, which would probably mean it could no longer be on Soulgeek (which is not a porn site after all).
As for the impending fight, I’m getting the feeling that it’s going to be even shorter than Ponty vs. Zona, but be just as decisive. Even if it doesn’t end with the Bull Tribe captain being totally pwned by Tethik, he’ll still have earned the captain’s respect.
August 28th, 2009 at 3:24 am
Oh come on, she has to keep her breasts supported somehow. Just ask any woman how much fun it is to run without a sports bra.
Also: FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
August 28th, 2009 at 3:41 am
Regarding the archer: Breasts + bowstring = ow. Even with them bound, she still might have a little trouble aiming at times…
August 28th, 2009 at 4:16 am
Great page.
But why isn’t “bald clean-shaven guy” getting the respect he deserves? Just look at him in the first panel! He’s all surprised, but making a bit of a “well, mayyyybe the old man has more to him than it appears?” face, which shows that he’s more discerning than most of the musclemen. Do you see what I mean? The right eyebrow’s all “SURPRISE!” but the LEFT eyebrow is going, “hmmm, I think there’s more to this old dude than meets the eye.”
On top of all this awesomeness, he’s the only guy in the entire group who’s man enough to buck the trend and avoid the socially awkward heavy facial hair. This guy is the business.
On another tack, I think Tethik is going to get beat. On purpose! Consider how well he’s manipulating the situation, and the pros and cons of the possibilities:
If he WINS:
Pros: He doesn’t get beat down.
Cons: He pisses off the Bull tribe, including the leader he hopes to renew friendship with. He’s laid hands on (what appears to be) the tribe’s prince, which places him in an awkward situation. He’s also going to piss off this guy and his entire troupe. Furthermore, he’s unlikely to get help from them, which he desperately needs.
If he goes down in that first blow which he oh-so-cleverly aimed at himself:
Pros: He hasn’t laid hands on the prince! Furthermore, the clan is likely to respect him AND feel sorry for him. He’s very likely to get to see the chief real soon, which is what he wants, and he’s far more likely to get help. Even more, this guy (who appears to be the prince) is likely to develop sympathy or even take a liking to this old man who stood up for his honor. Tethik comes out smelling like a rose.
Cons: He gets a black eye.
The thing to remember here is that Tethik’s most impressive muscles aren’t visible; they’re working inside his head. I think Tethik is about to win…by losing.
Moox
August 28th, 2009 at 5:00 am
This should be a nice little fight. Tethik probably won’t win, but at least earn some respect. And that is the most important.
And I agree on the bra thing; you don’t want to run around without proper support when you’re a woman! (I never got Zona’s first bra thingy, as it didn’t seem to have any support in it at all).
August 28th, 2009 at 5:42 am
Well if we cite mythology, the Amazons shot arrows bare chested.
Course they also CUT OFF their left breast to do so.
And Tristerston, a fair fight with no weapons is unlikely to spark any sort of war or aggression. If this is the prince, the Bull Leader’s likely to be glad Tethik smacked some humility into him.
Though I feel he may just be a ranking warrior, not a royal.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:54 am
Speaking as a woman who is…ah…well endowed, having good support is essential when being physical (unless you’re getting physical in the intimate sense). Otherwise it’s extremely uncomfortable, you soon discover gravity works and does it’s job well (think rocks in socks) and no one needs black eyes (sorry, kidding on the very last one).
I have to be honest, I look at Zona’s upper attire and cry a little. I pretend she has some mysterious support (maybe Mentl thinks of a song to use) to keep her ample bosom from getting in the way of her fighting.
Then again, as long as JED keeps showing this lady the lovely hunky lads, I’m very willing to overlook and forgive the extremely busty women with minimal if any support.
Besides, of all the female characters, Zona really does rock my little socks! (And these socks are sans socks!)
August 28th, 2009 at 5:56 am
Irg, typos suck, especially when making a lame joke! The very last bracketed sentence in my last post should read “(And these socks are sans rocks!)”
August 28th, 2009 at 6:23 am
Oh sure, TTD gets credit for the “I CAN’T UNSEE THE NIPPLES”… What does Sage get?
Not one lousy dance number, either. I’m going to go cry now.
August 28th, 2009 at 6:42 am
*pats sage* it’s okay, man. we’re all mad down here.
August 28th, 2009 at 6:49 am
AdamZero - I think you’ve got a good point, but more importantly there’s the whole context of the situation. Poty may or may not be older than Mentl, and used ‘boy’ in the purely derogatory manner of not having to use his name. Tehtik uses ‘boy’ in the more generic sense, as he is referring to someone who is clearly younger (and at least in Tethik’s opinion) not as wise as he is. Yes, it’s derogatory, but in a much more minor sense. Plus, Pontegar used it specifically as an insult, while Tethik is using it to ensure that his challenge is accepted - still an insult, but not just for the sake of being an ass
Plus, the fact that he’s handing over his sword to one of his possible captors is already putting deeds to his swords about not being an enemy - who else would hand over their weapon to someone whose leader you’re about to take on 1-on-1 unless you were willing to trust them enough to play fair?
Moox - while you may have a point, I don’t think that’s it. Remember, as long as the combat is 1-on-1 with no cheating and no excessive force, it’s considered “within the rules.” Tethik losing would probably cause him to lose respect, while the individual he beats may hold a grudge (probably not the Eroginian way, but individuals are just that), the rest of the tribe won’t just because Tethik wins. But we’ll see…
August 28th, 2009 at 7:43 am
Remember something, guys: If Tethik loses, he’ll probably get bound up. He’s fighting so he won’t be bound. If he doesn’t give at least as good as he gets, he WILL get bound up…and then probably shoved in a hut somewhere, and “eventually” word will get to King Tor about his presence among the Erogenians.
Besides, we do see that fighting–within its own social rules–is quite acceptable among Erogenians, and that there is NO shame to be on the “losing” side…for an Erogenian. Ponty got his face bruised by Zona–which is normally an insult for a prince heir to be struck by anyone–but he took it in stride, shrugged it off, and even offered to share his skin of Bear Tribe mead. So Tethik laying a fist or five on this guy isn’t going to phase the Erogenians, and–given how he was indeed King Tor’s friend and undoubtedly knows Erogenian culture–I’d say Tethik knows very well what he’s doing.
As for this warband leader being a prince of the tribe…I’d say he’s probably not, actually. My reason is this: if Tethik hung out with the Erogenians, it wasn’t all -that- long ago. If this guy was a prince, he’d have been hanging around King Tor’s home, and would have grown up knowing about Count Tethik…who isn’t all THAT old. So when this guy says “that was before my time”, I’m taking him to mean “that was before I became an adult and got involved in the border guard” out and about in public thing. If he were indeed a prince, as speculated…he’d have known about Tethik even as a child, simply by sheer proximity to the royal family. Even if he personally hadn’t seen Tethik, he would’ve heard family gossip and stories about the Count’s prior visits.
No, I’m thinking this guy, while probably of noble Erogenian blood, isn’t directly connected to the king of the Bull Tribe.
August 28th, 2009 at 8:29 am
@Adamzero - Yah no doubt of the use of the word ‘boy’ being an insult. My interest piqued on JED’s use of the term for the second time. As to WHY it’s an insult, I’d think it revolves around the Erogenian torq system. Calling someone a ‘boy’, or a ‘girl’ for that matter, is like saying someone is torqless or not worthy of wearing a torq. Obviously an insult ro an Erogenian. Which, in Pontagar’s favor, when he referred to Mentl as a boy was not neccesarily an insult, just a statement of fact regarding Mentls rank . . . nahhh well partially.
@ Kuraimizu - Good thought regarding the torqs. However, there could be a few other reasons for the type wealth:
Wealth for one or how well they did in whatever trials to earn the torq. Status as a warrior? i.e. Started out with iron but action in battle moved one up? Interesting can of worms you opened up K. If one earns an ‘iron’ torq but later goes out and buys one of say silver, I wonder what the reaction of other Erogenians would be.
JED pay no attention to the nattering comments on nipples. Obviously some people have a problem with their own sexual orientation. At least these guys are buffed, as a typical day on one of our beaches brings to view all sorts of horrendous bodies both male and female, Yrrch . . .cellulite.
August 28th, 2009 at 8:29 am
Jean - Good call. I think you are right on all counts. This guy isn’t a prince, and Tethik definitely knows the customs. My guess is he was hiding rather than fighting his way out of the kingdom because he doesn’t want any of his countrymen killed just for following the (idiot) prince’s orders.
Be that as it may, I get the feeling this border guard is about to get the thrashing of his life from this … well… effete seeming nobleman. And I almost feel sorry for the idiot earlier in the story who called him a “turd burgler”. Almost.
August 28th, 2009 at 8:35 am
…So. It seems that “boy” is a much larger insult than we first realised, which throws Ponty’s insult into a whole new context. Not that any of us thought he was anything BUT an ass.
And yes, I think it’s safe to say Tethik knows what he’s doing, although letting the other guy get the first blow is… Intriguing. But yes, he will win more respect by proving he can handle himself than by showing he has guts. And no, the captain wouldn’t hold a grudge, I doubt- cha and all that. What’s more is, he threw down the first insult by wanting to bind a man who comes in peace, and is a friend of his king. So it all balences out in my opinion.
Very interested to see where this goes.
August 28th, 2009 at 8:46 am
Oh my…the males in this strip are touchy about the “boy” thing.
JED, please don’t start doing nudies in the strip…I read this comic at work. As it is, I have to wait until I get home to look at your gallery.
On another note, Tethik is probably one of your greatest characters. I agree with another poster that he could probably have his own spin-off comic.
August 28th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Ehhh, the “boy” thing is overblown, guys. Yes, it’s an insult. But it’s balanced by the fact that Donnil first called Tethik an “old man” and also by the fact that Tethik is immediately giving Donnil the chance to prove he’s not. I have no idea who is going to win this fight. Just by looking at them, you would think Donnil, but JED is full of surprises. I think no matter who wins, Tethik wins respect for being a stand up guy.
August 28th, 2009 at 9:44 am
And yes, handing over his sword was a very diplomatic move on Tethik’s part.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:02 am
I believe we can file this under an “Oh no he didn’t!” moment ^_^
Tethik is totally gonna pwn his n00b butt
August 28th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
I love this guy!
August 28th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
“All the men are bare chested and Archer girl… sorry, Archer Woman, since Erogenians seem touchy about that, has to wear a breastband? Not fair!”
That band had better be leather, and you’ll note that none of the bull tribe guys with bare chests are slinging a bow. Probably because all it does is turn those large nipples into big targets for the bowstring. Ow!
August 28th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
My, but people are taking things overly seriously. The whole barechested woman thing was meant as nothing more than the humorous whining of a dissapointed pervert.
Adam Zero: I never said anything about starting a war. I think you mistook someone else for me. Rather I said that Tethik had moved things down to the level of a fistfight. That’s probably what the whole “boy” remark was for. Tethik knows his Erogenians, probably better than most of them know themselves.
As for Patrol Boss I doubt he’s royalty. I suspect Tethik and Yanora have both made it their business to know all the movers and shaker of Erogenian society by description though not sight. People keep calling him Donnil, when was he identified by name?
As for the facial expressions bearded Guy and Bold Bearded guy both look carefully neutral, Bald Claeshaven Guy looks like “Didn’t think a Southerner would have that in him” and Archer Woman looks…interested. Not in a sexual way but like she’s seeing more to the “old man” than the others are. I suspect if bets are made that she (and possibly Bald, Cleanshaven Guy) will clean up by betting on Tehtik against heavy odds.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
The second guy from the right (shaven dude with axes) reminds me a LOT of my manager from my college job. Has the look of a chap who spends most of his time smiling.
August 28th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Kuraimizu, I have it from JED about the TORC (neckrings) i am reposting what JED said to me
“Pat, in all the tribes, a torc (the neck-ring) is a piece of jewelry symbolizing adulthood. They are as individual as a wedding ring, and to the Erogenians just as important as such wedding bands are to us. They are of many metals, and usually reflect what the family can afford. In this picture you see Donnil (the speaker) wearing a gold mesh with stylized bull’s horns as the cap, others are wearing iron twisted wire with simple bronze or copper ball caps. Zona’s is one such in gold and bronze, Yinaera the archer is wearing a silver and steel torc of that design. Pontagar’s torc and jewelry were all of red and yellow gold and the caps of his torc are stylized human faces. Also, like a lot of warriors, Erogenians will frequently have spells woven into their jewelry for protection and other useful qualities. Yinaera’s ornate vambraces, like Zona’s bracers, have spells for her protection as well as accuracy in shooting.” So, as you can see there is not ranking system, well not intentionally anyway.
August 28th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
My money is on Tethik, and I suspect giving Donnil the first blow really isn’t an advantage to Donnil. Tethik probably has quite a few tricks up his sleeve; think of aikido, several techniques exist to trick your opponent into attacking you, so that you then can turn his energy against him. Sounds like the perfect technique for an older, skilled man to use against a young, stronger man (especially as the younger man also has bigger reach).
August 28th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Ga’tor: Your comment confuses me. What does observing that the nipples of the Erogninians in this strip are very large and prominent have to do with comfort, or the lack thereof, with one’s sexual orientation?
August 28th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I think we are about to see a classic example of “old age and treachery will always defeat youth and strength” Tethik is indeed asking Bull-boy to give him his hand for a little manipulation. Anyone for a flying throw over the shoulder followed by a nasty wrist lock? If Bull-boy behaves, there will even be no harm done in the end.
August 28th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
The “first blow” bit is classic–if he loses, well, he just seems to have been a bit cocky, if a good sport. And if he wins, he doubles-down on the impression of being a bad-ass.
August 28th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
SamuraiDemonPuppy: “Tethik is indeed asking Bull-boy to give him his hand for a little manipulation.”
Okay, NOW I can only see sexual jokes in this comic.
August 28th, 2009 at 11:28 pm
…All these chesty men makes me think longingly of that certain special double-slice of cheesecake, which I’m still waiting patiently to see…
*anticipatory happysigh*
August 28th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
@Sage LOL that comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek and was about as deep as pie pan. It was directed at no one in particular and has no mean spirited content. Sorry if it got your knickers bunched up.
August 29th, 2009 at 1:44 am
i don’t know any more, all other ergogenians that we seem to be meeting seem to be nothing but bullies and the like, hope its just a literary thing otherwise zona and her sis are just exceptions… still i’m a huge fan of the count. This should be interesting, i’d imagine he fights dirty
August 29th, 2009 at 1:58 am
A few observations here:
1. From the start, the Bull warrior hasn’t been respectful to Tethik, from first demanding his name, insulting him, and then insisting he be bound.
2. Tethik has shown no threat to the warrior. Instead, he has complied with unreasonably rude requests.
3. When the warrior first calls Tethik “old man”, he brings a personal challenge into it. Tethik responds to it with a similar comment (”boy”) and answers the challenge, setting up an honor fight. Handing his sword over ensures no one can accuse him of even thinking of cheating. (plus it lightens his load for the fight.)
4. By (supposedly) shading the fight towards his opponent, Tethik is going to teach the warrior a lesson, earn respect among the new bull warriors, and solidify his position within the tribe as an honored guest.
August 29th, 2009 at 4:27 am
Ga’tor: Bunched up? Nah. Just confused like I said. And here I was hoping for a good old-fashioned flame war. (Not really. I much prefer make-up orgies.)
August 29th, 2009 at 6:14 am
Going back to the whole “Archer woman wearing breast band? Not fair!” issue: I speak from experience when I say: A bowstring snapped against the breast area is, even through clothing, REALLY REALLY PAINFUL. Think about how it would feel if it were against BARE SKIN. I took archery a while back and, n00blet that I was, I held the bow the wrong way once and dry-fired it… both BIIIIG no-no’s. So, Archer Woman is protecting her goods!
Anyway, love the comic! I think Tethik will bring the pain! Good luck to him! ^_^
August 29th, 2009 at 9:20 am
Standard (short) recurves are far less likely to nurple the unwary archer than longbows. (This goes for male or female; I’ve seen males get it, too, particularly when firing a longbow for the first time.) I would like to say that it is *NOT* necessary for a woman to tightly bind her breasts “out of the way”, nor even to amputate them as some historical records would have us believe the Amazons did. It’s actually quite easy to shoot a recurve even if you have impressive curves. I have cleavage which, while not quite Zona-impressive, definitely requires a custom-fit bra, and I haven’t ever nurpled myself. (Thank god.) Wrist-slapped…oh, yeah. Nurple, no.
…I have, however, ripped my glasses off my face when I “anchored” the string the wrong way. (That was…interesting.) I prefer to use the base knuckle of my thumb against my cheekbone, which puts the string just in front of my glasses…but thought I’d try an ear-length draw…and–fling!! Erm, yeah, thank goodness for tough, sturdy, high-density plastic lenses…
August 29th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Jean, you are thoroughly hopeless in matters of cheesecake. *eye-rolled*
August 29th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Jean, I would pay to have seen the glasses thing. That sounds -classic-.
August 29th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Ouch… I’ve had my own glasses caught in a rugby pile once. Still surprised they came out almost unscrathed.
These days I use lenses since my glasses went flying twice in a week during training. <3 for titanium.
Hmm, all this talk of archery makes me want to try it again. It was fun.
August 29th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Lora
Titanium frames are about the best thing I’ve ever owned. They survived everything except a three year old niece. “Look, Mama, they’re twisty! … oops.”
I note that Tethik said, “I’ll even let you have the first blow.” He didn’t say he would let it land. In many martial arts, a good opening move is to allow your opponent to start the fight, and divert or deflect the force of his blow/kick to place him out of position and off balance, open to your return strike.
And yeah, I suspect Tethik is trained in a form of unarmed combat. We’ll certainly find out, won’t we?
August 29th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
I have already placed my bet for Tuesday, but I just wanted to share how I read the previous pages. I may of course be totally and utterly wrong, but that’s half the fun, isn’t it?
Page 301:
Donnil: Finally something happens on this ##$$#%#$%#$% border duty! OK, let’s do that “Warriors appear from nowhere” instead of just stepping forward and saying hello! I hope he’s a spy! Or an assassin! Or an evil wizard! Or an evil wizard-spy-assassin!
Donnil: Make no move!
Tethik: And here we go again…
Page 302:
Donnil: Look how cool and posturing I am!
Tethik: OK, I’ll try the easy and proper way with you first. I’ll state my business and hope you have a brain. “I’ll tell that to your king, take me to him.”
Donnil: Hey, I’m not through posturing! And you really are an evil assassin, aren’t you! $%#$% Kivalian liar! “What do you have to hide?”
Tethik: If you’d have half a brain you’d understand politics quickly gets dirty and “need to know” is a healthy principle, but I’ll try to take this really slowly with you, and give you a bone as well. “I am Count Tethik of Dell [...]”
Donnil: Blah blah blah, see if I care. I really can’t trust a word you say, can I? “[...] prepare to be bound.”
Tethik: So much for the easy way, ah, well, you seem to be easy enough to play. Let’s see…
Page 303:
Donnil: Oh! A bait! Me swallow lovely bait! Hah! I’ll beat this guy into a pulp! Finally some action! “You think you can beat me, old man?”
Tethik: Sigh… This is just too easy… Let’s see if I can turn off the last of your brain cells while I’m at it. “Boy, I’ll beat you with my empty hands [...]”
Donnil: #$%#$% This is ON! You’re going DOWN!
Tethik: Ah, well, best to remove my sword in a very clear manner, so nobody gets trigger happy without having to work to explain themselves. Hard to tell if anybody here works for the opposition…

Donnil: Oops!

(Frankly, you should be wary if someone 20 years older, 20 kg less muscled and 20 cm shorter challenges you to a hand-to-hand fight, IMHO.
)

But if they’re that much older than you, you’re most likely too young and stupid to realize it may be some kind of trap. You’ll see their age as weakness, not a possible source of strength.

So I’m guessiing it’s summer. I hope the tribes have sunscreen.
August 29th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I’m guessing Mr. Donnil is about to learn the old saying: “Old age and treachery will beat youth and enthusiasm. Every. Time.”

fyi, you have the arrow on the wrong side of the bow. I don’t really think I’d wear my axe light that, with the blade right on my head/neck, ouch!
I think the shirt cha is unbalanced!!!
August 30th, 2009 at 12:14 am
God - Thanks, we already know all about the arrow. And he’s not wearing the axe, it’s in the hand of the guy behind him.

Man! I just found this comic tonight refered by a thread over at DAZ3D and I’m hooked!! I had to go back and start from the beginning and just spent the past 4 or more hours reading the whole story up to this point! ARGH!! It’s no where near over and now I have to wait for the next panel with the rest of you lot!

Shirt cha is unbalanced? Geez, they must’ve been buried-under-16-layers-of-cloth repressed back in their old evil-god-worshipping days, if the proper way to “balance the shirt cha” is to run around mostly nekkid…
…Not that I’m objecting. I like cheesecake. Mmm, nummy cheesecake.

It’s a good thing this is a fantasy world. In the real world, you do NOT want to tangle bareknuckled with someone that much taller and stronger than you, if they have even a modicum of training. I learned this the hard way, being a martial artist of average-to-small stature myself (Shaolin Kempo). For a while, I really believed that with enough training, I could prevail…now I think that the disparity in training has to be extremely large for the lighter, smaller fighter to have a chance.
Just my two cents on the matter.

Moox
Well you see, there is something being overlooked here. I see it going down something like this.
Warrior throws punch at Tethik. Punch lands, decking Tethik.
Trained warhorse promptly leaps on top of warrior, and performs, with style and panache, the entire score of Riverdance.
General applause.
The guy with the axe tries to chat up the horse. Object, a date with the horse for the next square dance.
Archer girl, indignant, breaks bow over two-timing axeman’s head, kisses the horse, and rides off into the sunset.

Moox, if the training is equal and the speed is close, then size and reach wins generally. Which is why I find it funny about the “fat arse” being a push over in so many Yankee directed movies. Down here, the “fat arse” is the one who can pick up the biggest load, take the biggest punch and knock you into next week.
However, my question to you personally. Are you referring to sparring matches in the dojo or actual fights in the street? Even “full contact” matches in the dojo will limit you as the shorter and lighter fighter.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Moox, I hate to disagree, but the winner is usually has more to do with who is willing to up the violence more than it is the size of the person. If the big guy concentrates on throwing punches, and the little guy grabs the big guys ear and rips it off his head, then 9 times out of 10, the little guy is going to win. Just sayin….

Um, did I miss anyone bringing it up, but Tethik says “empty hands” - literal translation of the word “karate” is “empty hand”. He not only says “martial arts” he told us which one… probably a serious dan as well. Shi or better?
August 31st, 2009 at 6:40 am
Fatuncle, that scenario was just…FTW.
*smooches you on the cheek* Thank you for the laugh, dear.
August 31st, 2009 at 8:48 am
In the Yankee directed movies, the “fat arse” is usually symbolically lazy or gluttonous. The slimmer foe is thus subconsciously identified as not having either of those undesirable traits. Treat it as morality fable.
Even before WWE had to admit to the Atlantic City gaming commission that it was a SHOW, rather than a competition, I was considering that entire industry as ‘high impact morality play’, rather than Wrestling, or competition. This does not make the participants any less impressive as physical specimens, but it does clarify whether or not it’s fake. It’s not a sport, but it’s incredibly physically demanding.

Jean
Oh. ( Touches cheek gently )
Oh, my.
I shall now go sit on the corner, smiling at nothing in particular, until tomorrow brings the next installment.
August 31st, 2009 at 10:22 am
Jean.
By the way, what, in your lexicon, is the definition of FTW? The only thing I’ve heard it used for was decidedly rude.
August 31st, 2009 at 10:49 am
WTF - What tha fuge?
FTW - For Teh Win!
Too confusingly similiar? I think so.
August 31st, 2009 at 10:59 am
Acipenser
Well, I have always heard it as “Eff The World”, which did not fit the rest of what Jean said at all, at all. So I thought I would ask.
Besides, she might smooch me on the other cheek. ( smiling )
August 31st, 2009 at 5:04 pm
WTF: What the eff?
FTW: For the win.
FTL: For teh lose.
WTFOMGLOLROFLPWNED: What is about to happen to our Erogenian friend when Tethik gets his paws on him.
August 31st, 2009 at 10:05 pm
In my lexicon, FTW = For The Win. (Yes, I play Whirrled of Whorecrack…er, I mean, World of Whor…er, Warcraft.) “For The Win” means basically, “…This is what helped us (or will help us) pwn (pound/own/defeat) our enemies!”
“Ponies, FTW!” (Utilizing the uber-awesomesauceness of half-sized horses, aka ponies, we won, yay!) Aka Richard the Warlock’s battle-cry in Looking For Group, “–For Pony!”
In this instance, you amused me so much, Fatuncle, that your plot synopsis was FTW. You successfully made me giggle-grin. A lot. *hugs*

Ah, unfortunately for young Bull, he does not have the skill to match the old man.
