Tomorrow Night
Sorry kids, but it looks as though I’ve found some kind of incompatibility with Poser and Vista, or somehow one of my main files has been silently corrupted. After beating my head against the desk for hours, I’m headed to bed. I am confident, though, that I shall be able to fix it and get the new page up tomorrow.

Corrupted files - uh oh! I hope this works out!

Usually killing the Poser Preference file will fix that kind of issue. (Things like this really make me dislike Poser and why I have primarily migrated to Carrara.

Lygiron - Oh, I’m sure it will. It always has.
BetterThanLife - I will so totally try that this afternoon. The problem is one file and EVERY SEPARATE ELEMENT IN IT seems to hang on loading textures. It was a whole scene, and ready to render. Then, no matter what I took out, hid or copied to a separate file it had the same problem. I managed to save some of the work by creating poses so that I could use a new figure from scratch and that, with all the same textures and everything seemed to work. But by then it was 1AM and I was drooling on the keyboard.
wysiwyg - Poser 7 with the latest service release. And you know what? I would like a Poser 7.1. I don’t want a Poser 8 that gives me more features I don’t necessarily need - I want an application that has a more stable platform, better memory management and more resolution options. I want something, in other words, that does what this does but does it faster and doesn’t frigging crash on me. Is that too much to ask?! *snif!*
hans - OMFG!! That is awesome!!

Is there anything more frustrating as a comp program that wont work & you can’t figure out? I found out the hard way, punching the monitor does not help a bit =) Is why i now just say screw it & have someone more computer literate than me work on it, the $$ you spend is well worth the blood pressure points you save. You can only do what you can do JE, gl with the comp.

If you aren’t using Wyrmmaster’s magnets, snag the Carrara 7 demo and give it a try. Definitely better memory management, (I think of the programs that use Poser content Poser has the worst memory management) faster rendering, better lighting and terrain capabilities that will definitely fit with your story.

Love the comic!
Now for some quick tech support advice: try right-clicking the affected (corrupt) file in Windows Explorer, and selecting Restore Previous Versions. Unless you disabled restore points, you should be able to revert the file to the state it was in on any day for probably at least a week back.
I hope this helps! Can’t wait to see more of the comic.

Doesn’t help with Vista and Poser. (Finding the corrupt file and assuming Windows made a backup is not a good thing, besides in this case it is a new install onto a Vista machine.
However with Vista and Poser one thing is a recurring theme. You MUST install Poser as Admin. Not a user with Admin rights but as Admin. It may also help to run it once as Admin. This is true of most CG programs. (DAZ Studio 3 may be an exception but I wouldn’t bet on it. )
One of the many reasons I run XP 64.
