Nice update. Oddly, I think the speech bubbles and different positioning of the two here add a lot to it. I like how close our vantage point is to both of them.

Hmm, Mentl has been targeted by the fire god. Shame that at this point he has no idea of the bulleye now painted on his back…
….and Gorshash is gonna get it but good. Like I said a couple pages back, sucks to be him right now.

Sage- Shauch would so kick a puppy.
Macnut: Not exactly, if he’s smart he’ll ask Tula to teach him how to trance and they’ll be able to talk to Vito. And he should at least be able to say, ‘Watch out, shit’s real” Plus Tula’s smart. She now knows, or suspects, Shauch is trying to break out of the permanent penalty box, and she saw that as soon as Gorsash saw his magick, Mentl became a target. She should at least note to him that he’s no longer a secret weapon, if he ever was.

Poor Mentl, *sigh* well….. you know what they say? “If you have no enemies, you are doing something wrong”! Guess it is time for Mentl to lose his innocence and “grow up” in magick. At least he is well placed for quality instruction.
Incidentally; where is our friend Vito? And…. does he understand what has happened?

Eh? What? Gorshash isn’t going to get another whack at our heroines? Dang! And JED just signed him to a long-term contract!
Perhaps Shauch has someone meaner, uglier, and more capable in the warmup pen? Not good.

Hans - Well, Vito has said many time that there are rules to how much and in what ways he can help. He cannot directly intervene or even speak plainly on most things. He has to hint and hope. I think it’s up to Tula, Zona and High Priests and Priestesses.
We all said it when the fight started, Tula kept her cool and G went mad with revenge. Shuach called him on it. Sucks to be him. Still, JED said we hadn’t seen the last of him. I’m wondering if G can’t practice patience and tries anyway?

Nice critique by the big flaming one and an interesting comment on Mentl, which raises the question if Mr. Flamer is the one who put the hit on Vito in our timeline. Of course, we should remember that there are probably more than three deities available and there might be some other stuff we don’t know.
I don’t think Vito has a choice and given his comments earlier about how one knows more when one is “between” physical lives, it might be better as a mentor for him to remain in the Otherwhen. Of course, that means Tula (or other caster) has to at least partially train Mentl. IMO, Mentl is progressing nicely. JED can correct me if I’m wrong, but Mentl is a nice guy, a bit on the “metrosexual” side from a left coast upbringing, a bit of a loser (although he was still swinging as best he could before the transition and still is now, so he isn’t really a *loser*, more he was *losing* in our timeline).
After all, he has “cowboyed up” with Ginsha, even when it turned out a bit overly weird, he chose to not abandon Zona but again assert himself in the fight underground and now this fight where they actually worked together. He just needs some time to continue assimilating the changes.

Okay, I’m still confused. Shuach is trapped in the Otherwhoodles, but still has power Gorshash was able to to escape to him, but isn’t trapped there. Shuach might hold him there. Shuach isn’t as trapped as we think. And he’s grown a nose. Am I straight on all of this?
And I want to say thanks for the incentives.
Totally unsolicited rant coming up: If YOU haven’t donated to JED’s computer fund, what’s stopping you? The guy gives us some great stuff constantly. Break open the piggy bank & say thanks. (Rant done.)

“He is the one who should not be.” Oh, now that is such a very interesting and loaded statement. Shuach has GOT to be aware of other pan-dimensional/parallel worlds…Or does he? If not that’s a major limiter on his omniscience factor. If so, then… What? Is he indicating that someone (Vito) ‘cheated’ or that he himself screwed up? Hmm, there were those two gits that offed Vito. And there’s something about this exchange that tells me that Shuach is a bit concerned (afraid?) of Mentl’s potential.
Aye laddie, ye done good again, Great art AND story line too. You’re, keeping me on the edge of my seat JED.
@Cap Marsupial: If Shuach isn’t all that trapped then it’s another indicator of a basic personality trait of all bullies, spouse beaters, and torturers of helpless creatures - ‘cowardise’.

AdamZero - They’ve both been pretty busy, but some instruction and exercise is happening, and will continue to do.
Nytsky - It will not be pleasant for dear old Gorshash, trust the author. And Vito is where he was before. And he does understand what’s happened -better than the living folks do.

hans - It’s not his job anymore. Mentoring Mentl was his job - and he had to leave it unfinished.
Lachesis - Now THAT’s a thought …
Kamatu - The answer to the mastermind behind Vito’s untimely demise (He was only 73 and in excellent health) will be forthcoming, but not for quite some time. Feel free to speculate. As I say - you just might guess right! And yes, Mentl is a nice guy. He’s learning how to use his power and to step up to the plate, but it’s an ongoing process, one I have plotted out for quite a long future in this and other worlds.
Captaon (?) Marsupial - Okay, in a nutshell: Gorshash’s body is back at the base or whatever point he teleported it to with the aid of his nifty eyeball. Thanks to his multiple horrendous injuries and shock, he’s out like a light. His spirit form has been drawn to the Otherwhen just as Tula’s was when she lost consciousness back in the cave. Unlike Tula, he’s in a fairly unpleasant place. Shuach is trapped in the Otherwhen. He’s stuck pretty good. However, he can still channel power to the prime material plane in some manner I haven’t explained yet, in addition to the residual energies still left over in his sacred places from his centuries-long rule. He’s somehow also found a way (which I also haven’t explained and won’t for some time) that will supposedly lead to his getting unstuck from the Otherwhen so he can go back to being the Grande Fromage Du Erogenia. And he has no nose. Someone told him he smelled, so he got rid of
it.

There is just one thing I am not sure I follow, did he count the first defeat (the first escape when Gorshash lost his eye) as one of the three? If so, he sounds as if he were going back and forth, saying “school yourself in patience, priest ” or “we can best exert our power”, but then goes and says “there will not be a third attempt for you”. In any case, I understand that there is always the option that he will be still part of the god’s plan in the Otherwhen where they may meet Mentl at a later time.
Great development as always, it is nice to see Gorshash’s face light up as a child’s when he says that next time he will do it right and then his head hanging down in shame when told there are no more chances.

So lemme get this straight-the Otherwhen is all one place, but has many…I guess rooms/sub-dimensions, something like that? Shuach is “locked” in one “room” while Vito is in another “room” that he can leave whenever he wants?

wysiwig - well, if you had a face like that, you might feel a little spiteful …
Jorge - yes, he had the first attempt when he lured them in and gassed `em. They all got away. Failure #1. Then he went balls-out to capture them again and got his ass handed to him. Failure #2. That means that “next time” would be #3, and Big Daddy has just said, “nay-nay” to that.
The Macnut - The Otherwhen is a complete Unreality. You can literally create your own little sub-reality by force of will and imagination. That’s what Vito’s done with his apartment. He doesn’t see the need to make a whole ginormous scene like Shuach has done, though it’s quite possible he could. But, as you can see, Shuach’s little slice of hell may be big and dramatic-looking, but there’s not a whole hell of a lot there. Says something about the guy. And yes, he is locked in there by very simple magicks. Simple but strong - there’s no complexity to exploit, and no loopholes for 3000 years. Until, apparently, now.

Since he’s a god, and can presumably take on any form he wants, we may expect “him” to appear as a beautiful woman to Mentyl to try to seduce him (Yeah, like THAT’S gonna happen…)

Whackety - smackety… almost makes you wanna feel sorry for G right? ….nah…. =D I am kinda interested in the dual messages from S that the other posts have mentioned…His Pyromaniac-Evilness seems to have a use for G…so I am thinking that the pain will NOT be majorly damaging…probably humiliating and painful…but nonlethal and perhaps not too disfiguring…
