Is it weird that every time I look at this page I think of the scene in The Incredibles when the tiny little boss at the insurance company is giving the dressing down speech: "I'm not happy, Bob."

@demaar: "Kaila, maybe like most prisoners he works out obsessively to counter the boredom. All that pumping iron will do wonders for your arms and upper body, but stops short at the neck."

I spent 18 years as a prison guard and Trust Me On This:

1) Most prisoners do NOT pump iron, because the freaks hog the weight room.

2) We (at least I) never had trouble managing the bulky prisoners. They did bully other prisoners.

3) Pumping iron does affect them above the neck. It moves their body fat up between their ears.

JE- I honestly don't know much about the play, but I do know a little about English history (what with it being covered at English schools...!) I won't say I remember much, but I'm interested in psychology, and part of that is the interesting way people tend to latch on to the most gruesome possibility and treat it as truth.

Fatuncle- I did pick up on that, yes! I just felt the need to point out that rumour probably DOESN'T have it right. xP But the whole thing still worked for the purposes of discussion. (I just feel the need to be a smart arse occasionally- no pun intended.)

Jason - I do know most of what you're saying here - even modern history is sometimes a guess at what is truth and what is popular fiction. The Marlowe play is really what I was referring to. Saw an extraordinary production of it with Ian McKellan in the title role back in `80. The climactic scene was ... eeeyuch.

Not that anyone will read this now it's not the most recent page- but there has been much evidence to prove that Edward II actually was not murdered in 1327 when the rumour was spread that he was. There was a single report given that he was murdered- with many rumours as to how he was murdered being spread later- but there were many reports and accounts about his survival, to the point of Edward's halfbrother the Earl of Kent being executed two years later for (supposedly) attempting to rescue Edward II and return him to the throne.

...Just a point. xD The red-hot-poker thing is popular, though, mostly because people are bloodthirsty.

@Fatuncle

Reminds me of Mel Brooks' song "The Inquisition" from History of the World, Part 1

"
I was sitting In a temple, I was minding My own business, I was listening
To a lovely Hebrew mass...
Then these papist Persons plunge in And they throw me in a Dungeon,
and they shove A red hot poker up my ass.

Is that considerate? Is that polite? And not a tube Of Preparation H in sight!
