Oooh, ominous prophecy and laughter… And slinking away to fight another day. Gorshash is classy.

  2. Jim Farris
    June 26th, 2009 at 4:16 am

Well, at least G got the beat-down he so richly deserved.

So Shuach is down, but not out. Perhaps this is the reason Vito was tasked with the training of Mentyl. How unfortunate that his apocolite has spilled the beans. Train like never before, for the war of the gods is neigh! Also, nice battle damage on all parties!

  4. AdamZero
    June 26th, 2009 at 4:23 am

Spilled the beans? how so IZ?

So Mentl and Zona are battling back to back, their cha is probably DANCING right now, Tula, while angry about Gorash’s escape, is already putting together a report on the spells G used, and everything that went down, to give to the High Priestess, Her Mom, and all the other important Eroginians they come across.

Unfiltered intel, AZ. Now our heros know the what, just not the when of the plan. Shuach is coming. G has stated a “plan” is time sensitive. While these may not be related, then are certainly both of no help to our friends.

Uh, I love the effect of Tula having the Earth magic in her right hand and the moon magic in her left. Looks cool. 8)

And unless I’m wrong Tula flies over to where Gorshash landed?

  7. Leftnt Sharpe
    June 26th, 2009 at 6:11 am

Ah, the old “bring your dark god into the mortal world” ploy eh? Is Mentl going to turn into a giant Dragon to fight him?

I hate it when the bad guy teleports away. So undignified. Then again, I suppose it will be decent enough punishment (for the moment) to have to tell his men he let the animals get away again after having his arse handed to him.

I love the detail on Tula’s wounds, they look fantastic.

It seems the rule proves as true for heroes as it does for villains. Shoot THEN gloat. Shoot THEN gloat.

    June 26th, 2009 at 8:16 am

Ok, I realize this is heresy in terms of story telling conventions but I don’t care.
Kill the villain. I don’t care how much effort you put into creating the villain, I don’t care how cool everyone thinks the villain is. Kill. Them. Off. Thank you; I feel better now.

majQa’! Yeesh! From that impact, Tula must have shattered every bone in Gorshash’s feet and lower legs. The healing arts would not seem to be something of great importance within the realm of the fire god. That which exists is probably used to keep victims alive under extreme interrogation. Then again, highly trained warriors or priests would seem to be assetts worth saving. Don’t count on anesthesia being high on the list of priorities though. i.e.
Shuach: “Gorshash you ass, you really screwed the pooch on that one. Got some stuff called super glue for those shattered bones of yours. Huh? Morphine? LOL you wish, here bite on this piece of leather and hold still.”
And did I detect a bit of “tlhIngan Hol” that slipped across the dimensional barriers?
    Qapla’!

    June 26th, 2009 at 8:55 am

‘kay, I didn’t get that he escaped, but that Tula sent him to the otherwhen, and it’s a slow fade. I am looking forward to when Tula takes his other eye, and his head peels back like a punctured grape, releasing a fireball of evil. Or something. Now, back to Mentl & Zona and back to their home.

  13. Lebbrin
    June 26th, 2009 at 8:59 am

I’m with AdamZero Shoot THEN gloat. :D Then again, it wouldn’t be as much fun, would it?

Great work as always JE, I can’t wait to see how Mentl and Zona are doing. Outstanding work.

  14. AdamZero
    June 26th, 2009 at 9:29 am

Thanks Lebbrin, I’m guessing they’re surrounding by corpses right now.

Corpses, their horses, and the cats checking the bodies.

Also, trees… to quote the doc from Courage the Cowardly Dog. “What is up wit dat?”

Furthermore, Gorash’s remaining eye has been shiny red up till know, but it’s black-green now… sup

Adam - that may be an effect of the green light we are looking at him in, but JED would know better than me.

When I first read the page, I thought okay, the bad guy is doing a Word of Recall to his kicked-ass out of dodge. The second time I read the page, I thought (like Capt M), hmmm maybe he is just fading to the otherwhen to be imprisoned with Shuach like Tula said. The third time I read the page, I thought no, why would Tula try to Moon Bolt him (PAIO!) him if he is being imprisoned instead of escaping? But I dunno.

I am sure JED will clear it up in the coming weeks and months. I just hope Mentl is “up” for what is almost certainly coming his way soon.

  16. Uhl
    June 26th, 2009 at 10:40 am

It doesn’t seem that Gorshash got away, but he’s not gone either. He’s definitely gloating but in the “beat me up all you want, I’ve already won” kind of way. Unless Shuagh betrays him and betrays him huge, Gorshash is going to be the loyal vassal until he dies and maybe even a bit after.

  17. Ga'Tor
    June 26th, 2009 at 11:27 am

@Hugh Well maybe it’s just me speculating too much on what JED is intending here but I agree with you. Gorshash beamed himself out before Tula could send him off to join Shuach. That last magickal phrase “shangho - chu!” reminds me very much of Kirk’s “Maltz, jol chu’!” fade out with manaical laughter. Also, Tula’s last ditch “Paio!!” does seem to be a clincher.

Acipenser - Well, I figure even if it’s not classy - it’s definitely a classic move from page 36 of “The Villain’s Handbook and Guide To Evil Badassery.”

jim Farris - Oh, to say the very least, he did.

IncursionZero - Nice speculation! All I will say is that nothing that’s happened to Mentl has been purely random, and he is in Erogenia for a reason.

AdamZero- You’ll see M&Z on Tuesday, if not before. And yes, once we’re done with this long, long night, we’ll be finally heading into deeper Erogenia.

Lora - Yeah, I thought about that. Should I put one on the right and the other on the left or vicey-versy? I’ve decided not to be consistent with it, since the goddess sisters are very cool with each other. And, you are not mistaken. She’s all floaty and shit. :)

Leftnt Sharpe - mm - not too sure what Mentl’s gonna do if and when Ye Olde Ultimate Shytestorme goes down, but I hope y’all will not be too disappointed.

Ami - Well, he managed to salvage a little bit with his villainous triumphant laugh, now, dontcha think? Thanks! Those cuts available wherever better photoshop layers are sold! :)

AdamZero - Seriously - that is one thing you can say about Zona. She doesn’t hesitate: See the bad guy. Fuck him up. Now. ;)

firegoat - Hold on thar, Babba-Louie! I can’t kill him now! I just signed a lease for an entire story-arc on this guy. You think I’m gonna get my deposit back now? Geeze!

And now, all day I’ll have Daffy and Bugs in my head:

“Shoot him now! Shoot him NOW!”

“You be quiet, he doesn’t *have* to shoot you now.”

“Well, I say he DOES have to shoot me now! So SHOOT ME NOW!!”

    BLAM!

    Okay - odd interval over.

Ga’Tor - What a lurid imagination you’ve got. Nasty, sadistic little scenes involving our dear, broken-legged Gorshash and his ever-lovin’ Immortal Evilness? Heh. I like. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Klingon - though I know people who do. :)

Captain Marsupial - Apparently you’re not the only one. I can definitely see where it’s ambiguous, and I hate being ambiguous when I don’t mean to be. Obviously my fault, and I may actually re-do this page. When Tula says “send you to him” it’s like saying “Send you to Hell” just before she blasts him. She meant to kill him. Dead. (”Shoot him NOW!”) His nifty little eyeball enhances his magick just enough to let him yank himself away as he does a stereotypical muahaha. There. That’s it.

Lebbrin - But if they did that, what would I do with all this comic-book dialogue I have lying around? Huh? :) Thanks for the kind word.

Hugh - You’re right - it’s the effect of the green light. I thought about fixing it, but it actually came out so creepy cool I decided to keep it. And yes, as I `splained above, it was exactly as you first thought, though I understand the uncertaintly. And is Mentl up to it? Well, for weeks he was up to wild, gnarly sex with Zona. What else could be more of a challenge than that? ;)

Uhl - Well, he definitely got away, but — well, you will see what he got away with soon. :)

Nonono. Shoot. Shoot again. Go to the body and hack it up into little pieces. BURN the body. Urinate on the ashes. Scatter them into running water. THEN gloat. I am nothing if not thorough.

  20. Nytsky
    June 26th, 2009 at 12:49 pm

    AAuuggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

    You are Killing me!

So now, we not only have: “bad guy gets away”, but we have; “more news later on the emergence of his evil lord” ……….. “shit”!

Well, at least we have some good insight into his “plan”……. Now, time to put together what we know and come up with some Goddess Invocations for the much needed “kill the bad God/kill him good” tool kit.

I Knew it! G basically WAS singing Tom Smith’s Cthulhu Ftaghn (Albeit in Urrtish…)

  22. Elfguy
    June 26th, 2009 at 1:11 pm

And Hmn….”Shangho Chu” Must be similar to the Klingon “Maltz! jol yIchu’!”

@Elfguy - great minds think alike.

See, this is why they should have been made to dance a long time ago. Then they’d be dead and the world wouldn’t be in mortal peril and stuff.

He who laughs and ‘ports away, lives to laugh another day.

Just offhand, I cannot recall Tula using Earth Magick before. She seems to have pretty well focused on the use of Moon Magick. Which led me to wonder why she didn’t attempt to call upon the Earth Goddess while underground.

Or does the Goddess lend her strength more towards massive earthquake-like destruction, whereas the Lady of the Moon lends her disciplines towards more precise edge-and-point effect? I can see why you would want to use a sword for close up combat, rather than call in an earthquake — while fighting underground! — against an enemy only an arms length away.

Hm. Does this board handle HTML?

  27. Lora
    June 26th, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Oh, no need to redo the page; it is cool as it is. 8)

And whether she has Earth on right or left hand… Well, as long as it stays consisten in a fight where she is constantly using her magic I don’t care. ;)

I like the shading on Tula in the close ups.

  28. Elfguy
    June 26th, 2009 at 9:29 pm

Well the moon’s gravity AFFECTS the Earth, most notably in the tides, so the moon goddess could be expected to have some water-effects too.

So far, the Urrts’ god appears to be mostly fire based.

I just have to tell you again - or just tell you if I’ve neglected to do so - that I think your work on the expressions of your characters is just genius, best I’ve ever seen, period. The body language and the backgrounds and story are all awesome, don’t get me wrong, but wow, you really sell the whole thing because your characters look and move and are the farthest thing I can think of from stone-faced, stand-ins for 3D characters. Yours are not just 3D rendered art…they’re real. Real people. Walking, talking, smirking….and that’s a hellova lot of observation on your part and a hellova lot of work. Bravo. And thank you.

    Ton-Kha.

    Ton-Kha.

    …stick it up your Jump-Ha?

  33. JEDraft
    June 29th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

Tricksterson - Ever seen the “Robot Chicken” skit where they “kill” the werewolf? :)

Nytsky - That’s just the way these stories go, m’dear. Don’t worry, though - our intrepid adventurers
won’t see Gorshash for a while, at least.

Elfguy, Ga’Tor - What? “Mazeltov back atchu?” Huh? ;)

Sage - There will be NO dancing bad guys! At least, not in the regular strip’s continuity …

Landau - “Ton Kha” is actually a power trigger phrase. Analogous to when Mentl chanted “Shotgun!”

Elfguy - At this point, I will let yez all speculate about the relationships and styles of Erogenian magick, both ancient and modern. What, after all, is life without some mystery?

Sleepinin - Maybe. Maybe not. Did you really want to crack that skull-top of Gorshash’s staff?

Susi Potter - I thank you very humbly. First and foremost, I just want to tell the story. If you can’t connect with the characters, who cares about the story? That’s really why I pay closer attention to those details, and sometimes rack up hours, literally, doing and re-doing expressions because it just don’t LOOK right …

    Kern - Hm. I like it. :)

Tula is a Princess of the Moon Tribe, of course Moon Magick is her default mode. BUT she also got mixed up with Teriadeia(?sp) at 17. PLUS she has read every account of magic she could find.

JED hasn’t clued us in on all the Magick “Schools” on Teria; who knows what Tula might come up with?

  35. Prairie Son
    September 26th, 2010 at 7:53 am

@Fatuncle—Well, she had green power glows when she started talking to Mentl about magick. Other then that, straight Moonpower.

And I think Tula now understands what Vito meant about *having* to let them get sucked into the caves. Reconnaissance by fire; messy but effective.
