    Dying time, lizard-breath!
(Never underestimate a floating gal, that goes commando ;) )

Oh well, probably too optimistic. Hopefully at least frying time!

Looks like G’s goin’ for broke. This seems unwise, to me.

    Nice effects aroung Gorash!

Tula looks like she isn’t even trying! Time for a real powerup maybe?

  4. Matti

    Levitation!

  5. Lora
    June 2nd, 2009 at 4:14 am

Gorshack has to use a staff to get even with Tula… heh, I think I’ll vote for Tula in this one. (Tula, Mentl and Zona of course).

I don’t think so Jim…He is royally pissed off to be sure…but the way JED has constructed him I believe that once Zona and Mentl finish off his allies…he will pull a quick retreat and regroup. As Vito indicated he is pretty smart, but keeps tripping over his own arrogance/distain for those he deems to be lesser (e.g. his spoiled lil prince ally is nothing but a toy to him). Lora - you may be right on this one…he is relying pretty consistently on his staff to augment his attacks/defense - 1-1 and without it, I think that Tulla could take him pretty quickly…but she has that wonderful wild card of Mentl… =D

I wonder what reason Tula has to take to the air? Isolate Gorshash, obviously, but she could be doing it to be able to use a spell that would bee too dangerous either near allies or near trees…

    Nice page, again.

Gorash is losing his temper, while Tula is keeping cool.
Guess who will win this one? :-)

Oh man the anticipation is Killing me…. Isn’t it great!!!!

I second melon’s opinion. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

JED, how does it feel to play with your readers’s feelings?

The magick effects on this page are really awesome-the best so far. Yep, the battle is definitely building to a climax, and the fact that Tula isn’t worried does not bode well for Gorshash…

Let’s see…how do you shoot down a flying lizardman?

(Singing) “After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skys over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder man has never heard
Like the screaming sound of a big war bird.

Up in the sky, a man in a plane
Baron Von Richthofen was his name
Eight-y men tried and eight-y men died
Now where buried together on the country side.

Ten, Twenty, thirty, fourty, fifty or more
The bloody Red Baron was running up the score
Eight-y men died trying to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron from Germany…”

I don’t think I’ve heard the phrase “Come ahead” before. Is it an Erogenian expression or did Tula get lost between “Go ahead” and “Come on”? Or, the most likely option, have I just never been to a place where it is used?

Great job on the special effects, every time I think they can’t get any better you blow me away on the very next page. This comic amazes me.

Elfguy, that is nice! It’d make great campfire song/story about Mentl’s world… hey, maybe he has sang/told some already but those just haven’t fit into pages ;)

  15. Elfguy
    June 2nd, 2009 at 1:32 pm

    @Matti,

Not sure if “Snoopy versus the Red Baron” would be the best representation of our dimension, but imagine how embarrassed Gorshack would be at being shot down by a beagle riding a doghouse…

It looks like it’s going to be a VERY warm night for somebody… ;-)

hans, we shall see, indeed, whether optimism is warranted. Heh.
Jim Farris, Sometimes ya just GOTS to! :)
Apunkalipse, Thanks - I went through a bunch of renders to get to this one. When I get home, I’m thinking of putting up one of the cooler ones as an incentive. I GOTTA get further up the ladder than 60! :)
Matti, Actually, read the chant - this is a variation on the whirlwind spell she did at the beginning. She’s lifting herself on a cushion of air …
Okay, Lora, we’ll put you down for five bucks on Tula at even money. Soulworker, you’re betting on a last-minute escape from the scaley guy, okay that pays 3 to 1 …
Acipenser, if it’s not made clear, I’ll asplain when it’s all over. :)
Black Ethel, okay, that’s another five bucks on the red head …
melon, Zaraya, In the words of Willy Wonka, “The suspense is terrible… I hope it’ll last.” ;)
Macnut, thanks for the kudos on the FX! And another five bucks on the gal in the tight black pants …
Elfguy, Ah - no. Nice try, tho. ;)

Ami, It’s a pretty common expression, down our way. Glad you like it! Now I have to figure out how to get all this blood and fire onto the next page … :)

MaxBigFoot, you COULD say that … :)

As the Japanese would say (in Tula’s place): “Shinitai to kuru” (If you want to die, come to me) [the verb kuru has the understood meaning of coming to the speaker's location] I’ve mangled the original, but I didn’t want to write it down as a homonym for love. (koi)

  19. Lebbrin
    June 2nd, 2009 at 8:11 pm

‘Come ahead then.” Obviously her way of saying ‘Bring It On!’

I agree with the previous posters. G’s getting more enraged and Tula is staying very calm. The advantage is definitely on Tula’s side. JED, consider me down for $100 on the red-head. I also believe that Tula is taking to the air to isolate G and unleash a King size can of Whoop ass.

Great work as always JED. I am voting as often as I can. Hopefully others are as well.

    June 2nd, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Hmmm…..I wonder what would happen if Mentl tried singing Ogre Battle near those guys….

  21. Soulworker
    June 2nd, 2009 at 11:47 pm

3 to 1 JED? I will shure as hell take some of that action…I think this is one of those really kool significant clashes, but it is far from the end of the story for the G-man…uh..Urrt. Nah…I think that you made him to well to burn off in this early clash…I think that he is going to have a few more nasty surprises up his sleeves…

  22. Steve
    June 3rd, 2009 at 3:11 am

Of course, if Mentl finishes off G’s footsoldiers, he could sneak round the side and launch G a long way off with Elton John’s “Rocket Man”! I don’t think this is the end for G, but I don’t think he’ll win here either, so a couple of quid on Tula

  23. Lora
    June 3rd, 2009 at 8:34 am

Hmm, how are we gonna collect if we are right? It’s not like I live anywhere near the states. ;)

Just for clarification. I believe Tula have won even if Gorschak manages to escape. Wouldn’t do to kill off the big bad villian so early, after all.

  24. demas
    June 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 am

Great page (as usual)! Am I the only one who thinks our favorite villian made a big mistake when he swore to Shuach that he would gut Tula himself? I just can’t see Shuach being very understanding if (when) he fails.

  25. Tricksterson
    June 3rd, 2009 at 1:56 pm

I betting on Tula to win but Goirash to get away. I actually don’t think he’s the Big Bad, at least not the ultimate Big Bad. I figuring that eventually (probably not for some time) they are going to wind up facing Shuach himself. So this time I think Gorash gets away but at a price, not suure what that price will be. As for why she levitating herself? Who cares! It’s cool!

  26. Elfguy
    June 3rd, 2009 at 2:43 pm

I’m guessing that Tula is levitating to draw Gorshak’s attention away from Mentyl and the rest down below, and make sure she can concentrate on him and not have to worry about any more urrts or ogres sneaking up behind her.

  27. Acipenser
    June 4th, 2009 at 1:37 am

Yup, that’s my guess for the levitation too. But there might be… other reasons. One can hope.

  28. Lora
    June 4th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Like forcing Gorschak to look up at her? *innocent look*

  29. Bcanan
    June 4th, 2009 at 3:15 pm

ooh i know what is going to happen or i hope so she is going to bring her hands together from being outstreched and it would be cool if the blast cut him in half

  30. Elfguy
    June 4th, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I’m fairly sure that the Urrts have a mixed genetic pool for a long time. They have to be fairly closely related to humans in order to interbreed…and reptiles don’t have hair.

So…magical experiments interbreeding humans and reptiles of some sort?

    Rember, as Dogbert says,

    1) All mammals have hair.
    2) Whales are mammals, therefore,
    3) Whales have hair.
    4) Shave the Whales!

  31. Jim Farris
    June 4th, 2009 at 11:05 pm

RE: “They have to be fairly closely related to humans in order to interbreed…”

Quite possibly. They at least have to have the same number of chromozomes or a similar chromozonal composition, and the egg of the recipient (in this case we assume humans) have no effective way of blocking the sperm of the male. We know that strawberries and tomatoes are not even remotely related, yet they have been crossed.

Still, it’s a fantasy universe, of course, and once you say “magic works”, well, anything goes.
