This is not an over-reaction. The cats are highly trained hunting cats. They don’t wake up for a squirrel in the bushes. Something is definitely out there. Now, whether friend or foe is yet to be determined.

Yeah, was aware of that JE. But maybe making the magic twirl a bit more see through would´ve been a good idea? Instead switching Zona and Mentl´s positions would now, in the next panel, screw up Zona´s awesomely heroic hairdo.

I wouldn’t call it a “magic-phobia.” That implies that he’s afraid of magic itself. What he has is more like a realization of what could happen should he fuck up a spell.

I think if I was in a sound sleep, and was woken out of said sleep from what Tula is doing in the middle panel…my first reaction would probably mirror Mentl’s. Not that he’s afraid of magick, even if he might be afraid of what might happen if he loses control (and that Zona might love him because of a spell)….but that suddenly the area is bright and swirling with magick, along with magick words being said in a very loud tone, and he’s sleeping, so of course…

And I don’t think it’s Vito either-he wouldn’t induce such a hostile reaction from Tula, even if he was doing his “dirty old ghost” bit. I think Tula senses someone, but doesn’t know who it is, and considering their recent experience with the Urrts, is taking no chances and going on the defensive….
