One of the neat things about being at SoulGeek is that it got me in touch with Ben Paddon and the marvellously fun and funny Jump Leads strip that he writes, with awesome art by JJar. His first trade paperback, Jump Leads Vol.1: Tales From The Flurry is out now, and I am buying a copy myself. I encourage you all to check out Jump Leads and if, as I do, you find yourself giggling uncontrollably at this combination of Sliders and Hitchiker’s Guide To The Universe, then by all means purchase a copy. You can get it from Amazon, the Book Depository… in fact virtually every online book retailer. You can even get them directly from Ben, in fact.
As a lifelong fan of Robin Hood, I have subjected myself and been subjected unwillingly to a host of Robin Hood remakes, satires and spoofs from Mel Brooks’ “When Thing Were Rotten” (Not to be confused with “Men In Tights”) to “Prince Of Thieves,” to the recent BBC abortion. (Please, not another painfully clumsy shoehorned-in reference to contemporary politics!! Make it stop!!)
Most of these are godawful. Some are respectable, if misguided, retellings, some are well-meaning, some are just plain stupid and amateurish. Then, this week, I discovered “Much The Miller’s Son.”
Oh, My Sainted Aunt Janet. This is hysterical. This is cleverly written. This is bawdy, (NSFW!) smart, and funny, funny, funny. I highly recommend it.
